QUESTION:
How common are yeast infections during menopause?

 ANSWER:
"Menopause is often a major cause of vaginal infections. Fluctuating hormone levels can lead to the bacteria in your vagina going haywire. This in turn results in bad bacteria and fungi may be able to grow. Vaginal infections, especially yeast infections, are one of the main symptoms of menopause. "

So I guess from that you could say they are common as menopause is a major cause.

Hope that helped.

 QUESTION:
can you have vaginal bleeding with a yeast infection?
i havent had a period in 14 months i have been going through perimenopase. i was told after a year of no periods that i was done with menopause. i have a yeast infection after taking an antibiotic. I have diabetes so i get a yeast infection every time i take an antibiotic now.

 ANSWER:
there is no correlation between yeast infection and uterine/vaginal bleeding - it is your menopause - discover more in:

 QUESTION:
Do i have a yeast infection?
For the last few days i have been having a lot of pain in that area and it has been really itchy. today it has been less sever then it has been in the last 2 days but i started looking into it and i have everything but the discharge. i am only 17 and it was saying htat yeast infections usually dont happen till after menopause... so that cant be me. i just need some help on what there is that i can do to help.

 ANSWER:
That is not true about menopause - Yeast infections may be more common around the time of a menstrual period. In a normal menstrual cycle, estrogen deposits glycogen (a form of sugar) in the cells that are found in the lining of the vagina. The release of progesterone causes the cells to shed into the vagina, so the sugar becomes available for yeast to feed on, multiply and grow. Estrogen and sugar production peak at the midpoint between periods, and then progesterone begins to build and sugar is released. Yeast infection symptoms can follow the hormonal pattern of this cycle. Usually, the most severe symptoms occur before the onset of a woman's period when more sugar is available. During and after the flow, symptoms are likely to subside. Additionally, changes in the vaginal pH can disrupt the immune system or destroy the so-called friendly bacteria that populate the vaginal canal and keep the yeast fungus in check.

I get yeast infections on a monthly basis right before my period. Monistat doesn't help me that much anymore, especially since it's not good to use such medications on a regular basis. If you have redness, itching, and a lot of white discharge you probably have a yeast infection. Use yogurt! I know it sounds gross, but take a spoon of yogurt in a bowl and use your finger to put a little bit in your vagina. Then use a tampon, dip it in the rest (make sure you slather enough on there) and insert the tampon. Keep it in for an hour (no more, no less - if you keep it in for more than an hour, the added moisture can make it worse). The yogurt has active cultures that will restore the normal levels of bacteria that control the levels of yeast. it works really well!

Do not douche, douching can upset the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina. Use a mild fragrance-free soap to gently clean yourself once a day. Make sure that you always dry your nether regions properly after a shower. A warm moist environment is where yeast thrive.

sometimes bacteria can transfer from the anus to the vagina during sexual activity. It is important to urinate right after sexual activity to prevent urinary tract and yeast infections (however this preventive measure is more effective for urinary tract infections).

 QUESTION:
38 and never had a yeast infection?
i'm 38 and have never had a yeast infection; i've been on many antibiotics, used many soaps and body washes (never douched) and i just don't get them. is it possible to never have a yeast infection? out of all of the women i know, i am the only one who has never had one. is it possible i will start to get them after menopause?

 ANSWER:
Well, it has been said many times that most women will have at least one in their lifetime. You seem to be lucky, so far! Some women suffer with them constantly. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with hygiene, but rather just how your body reacts to changes within the system, as well as how it reacts to things going in.

Count your blessings. There is no way for someone to predict for you if you will get them or not. As all of us women know, our bodies are always changing when it comes to our reproductive system and how our bodies deals with the changes in hormones.

I have heard that menopause can bring about many things, including yeast infections. As long as you go for your yearly paps and everything is fine, don't worry about it.

Bless you with happiness and health!

 QUESTION:
Is it normal to have a crusty white/yellowish discharge in under wear during menopause?
It is the same as it was before I started my period 40 years ago.Thick white and flakey when it dries.I do not have a yeast infection or any STD. I've had yeast infections several times in my lifetime and this is not one.Has any other woman going through peri or menopause experianced this?

 ANSWER:
Yes, it's normal. Your body is experiencing hormonal changes at this stage just as it was when were you about to start your period. As long as it's not greenish, grayish, or lumpy then it's no cause for concern.

Recent statistics show that Candida yeast infection impacts 75% - 80% of the entire population of developed nations. While hundreds of millions of dollars are poured into yeast infection medication purchases every year, questions still have to be answered on the real results and also the menaces involved in taking such treatment for Candida infection. Yeast infection medications are increasingly demanded by patients who expect these products from drug manufacturers and providers. This is because yeast infection is continually on the increase amongst the peoples of developed nations.

Candidiasis, meaning yeast infection, comes from candida fungi. In healthy people, yeast microbes are restrained by beneficial organisms called probiotics. Thus Candida does not grow excessively or have the opportunity to do any damage. However, when Candida begins excessive multiplication, the external symptoms appear. It is Candida albicans that engenders approx. four out of five of all yeast infections, the other one out of five coming from Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis and other types of fungi. Notwithstanding, yeast microbes are normally to be found in the human body, including that of healthy individuals. They are resident in the warm moist oral, intestinal and genital environments.

Symptoms of yeast infection can be painful and distressing and for recurring candidiasis, it is a strong indication of a significant lack of inner equilibrium or a degraded autoimmune system. Candidiasis can affect different areas of the body. Examples of the most common subspecies are Candida male infection, diaper rash, thrush in the mouth, and others. According to the precise type of infection concerned, symptoms of yeast infection may vary. For example, yeast infection in women is often produced with genital itching accompanied by a thick, white discharge with no odor.

As creams acting against fungi, and also suppositories and tablets, yeast infection medicaments have been available to patients since 1990.

In the generic yeast infection medication list, there are Butoconazole, Terazol, Nizoral, Diflucan Gyne-Lotrimin, Clotrimazole (Mycelex-7), Miconazole, Vitaklenz, Monistat - 7, Sporanox, Nystatint, Tioconazole and Vagistat. The effect that they have differs according to which medicament is being discussed. In some cases Candida microbes are dissolved and killed by active substances such as clotrimazole (found in products such as Gyne-Lotrimin and Mycelex-7) and miconazole nitrate (found in Monistat 7) that are often prescribed for patients with infections in the genital area. They can be compared to muscarinic cholinergic agonists which are the basis of medicaments used for boosting salivary flow and prescribed for oral thrush. Such medications are for example cevimeline (Evoxac, Daiichi) and pilocarpine (Salagen, MGI Pharma).

These medications for yeast infection may give results in the immediate term but have a number of drawbacks:

1. Yeast infection medication goes no further than to target the symptoms of Candida infection, failing to take account of the complex nature of candidiasis and the fact that it is set off by an overall inner imbalance or comparable regrouping of factors. The relief is only temporary.

2. Repeated use of medicaments over a long duration may bring on undesirable secondary effects.

3. The onset of chronic Candida infections and ramifications of ill health may be the result of sanctioning what may be an unhealthy way of life through dependency on medicinal cures. This then aggravates the initial medical ailment.

Thus temporary alleviation is all that most yeast infection medicaments will bring, not to mention possible side effects. Yeast infection medication does not measure up to the holistic approach, because as a conservative solution, it does not recognize that the body is an integral whole and only addresses the symptoms of the disease. On the other hand, alternative holistic solutions that include specific vitamin and herbal adjuncts with a complete agenda of dietary protocols and Candida control guidelines, will eradicate the inner cause of candidiasis securely and effectively while at the same time preventing its recurrence.

 QUESTION:
What does it mean if yeast infection medication initially causes burning?
I inserted a probiotic medicine to combat yeast and it burned harshly for awhile. Does this mean I don't have a yeast infection or that the medication is working?

 ANSWER:
Basically the reason you have a yeast infection is because there's an imbalance in your body. A healthy person has a balance between the yeast in their body and the good bacteria in their body.

Too much yeast, you have a yeast infection. Too much bacteria, you have a bacterial infection.

So, when you have a yeast infection you essentially have too much yeast in your body relative to the good bacteria. The natural way to treat it and bring back that balance is to starve the yeast and introduce more good bacteria into your body.

Oh and BTW - That's why you often get relief from using the over the counter meds temporarily, and then the yeast infection comes back. The creams aren't changing the source of the problem. They are just killing the yeast they come in contact with, and not balancing the yeast/bacteria in your body and actually sometimes end up making things a lot worse.

Oh BTW2 - That's also why many times you'll get a yeast infection after using antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. When that happens the balance between the yeast and good bacteria is off, and once again and you get a yeast infection.

Things you can add to your diet (to help promote good bacteria) are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans

Things you should remove from your diet (to starve the yeast) are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour, alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold

Changing your diet will definitely get you on the road to balancing the yeast and good bacteria, but what I would also recommend is to use a homeopathic solution to help naturally speed up the process.

I always feel if there's a natural way to do something, then it's best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote re-growth of the good bacteria in your body.

There are a few out there, I think they are probably all pretty good. One that I have used and was very effective for me was is yeastrol.
Best of Luck!

 QUESTION:
Is it dangerous to use an OTC yeast infection medication without a diagnosis?
I know that it's not advisable, but is it PHYSICALLY DANGEROUS to use an OTC medication like Monistat if you weren't diagnosed by a doctor?

Don't answer if you're just going to say "you need to see a doctor anyway." I only want to know if Monistat is dangerous to use if there isn't an infection present.

Also, are there any preventative measures for yeast infections? What can you do to stop one from happening in the first place?

 ANSWER:
No, there is nothing inherently dangerous about using Monistat even though you may not need it. And, since yeast organisms like warm, dark moist areas, the best way to avoid getting a yeast infection is to eliminate these causes. Also, changes in the bacterial flora of the vagina, such as caused by the taking of antibiotics, can lead to a yeast overgrowth.

 QUESTION:
How fast does it take to cure a yeast infection with a 3-day over-the-counter yeast infection medication?
This is my first yeast infection. I just got off antibiotics, and thus, I have a yeast infection. How fast does it take to heal with over the counters? Also, after four hours of taking the medication, I went pee and most of it came out, now what?

 ANSWER:
Unfortunately, acquiring a yeast infection while taking or just finishing a course of antibiotics is common. Antibiotics kill all bacteria, including the good ones that inhabit the vagina.
A three day course of anti-fungal (ie monostat 3 ovule kit and cream) will require about a week.

Finally, can you explain what you mean by "...I went pee and most of it came out..." What do you mean by 'it'. A yeast infection is not a single, solid blob, even if parts of it look pretty 'chunky' (sorry to be gross here)

 QUESTION:
How soon can you have sex after using yeast infection medication?
I recently had a yeast infection & I used the 3 pre-filled applicators. I used my last applicator last night & being that the medication leaks out some(because it was inserted in my vagina), how do I know when I don't have any more medication left inside me?

This is the first time I have used this kind of treatment so I was just wondering how soon I can have sex after completing the 3 days of the medicine.

Please help!! Thanks

 ANSWER:
It's best to wait 5 - 7 days or after all symptoms are gone but if you simply just need it...... use some sort of protection. Definetly treat it! I personally prefer natural remedies thats just me - I'm no doctor.

 QUESTION:
Is it okay to use yeast infection medication even if you don't have one?
I think I may have a yeast infection, but I'm not positive and I can't go to the doctor. Is it harmful to use the medication if you don't have a yeast infection? I'm thinking of trying to use it and see if what problems I am having will clear up.. Anyone know?

 ANSWER:
You can now buy a test at your local pharmacy that can tell you if you have the infection or not. I would not take anything if you are not sure what you have.

A yeast infection will occur when the balance of yeast and the bacteria that controls yeast growth is upset. Most women will experience a least one or two yeast infections in their lifetimes. However, if you are getting three or more yeast infections per year, you have what is known as chronic yeast infections. Talk to your doctor because this could be a sign of an underlying health problem. Any disease that depletes the immune system can cause yeast infections, so it is vital that you get tested for these diseases.

Did you know that a yeast infection is not limited to the vagina? It can be present in other parts of the body as well and cause various symptoms. These symptoms can range from intense itching to fatigue and headaches. The following are common sites for a yeast infection and their symptoms:

Vaginal yeast infections. This is what most people think of when they hear the word yeast infections. Intense itching in the vaginal area, burning with urination and discharge are all common symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection. Gastrointestinal yeast infection. A yeast infection that is present in the gastrointestinal system will cause heartburn, bloating, diarrhea or constipation.

Respiratory allergies. An overgrowth of yeast in the body can cause runny nose, facial pain, wheezing and sneezing.

Central nervous system. Yeast infection in the body can affect the central nervous system and cause depression, anxiety, memory deficits or loss of ability to concentrate.

Menstrual abnormalities. Yeast infections can cause severe menstrual tension or PMS and menstrual irregularities.

General systemic symptoms. A yeast infection can be systemic, which means all through your body. A systemic infection can cause fatigue, headaches or irritability.

As you can see, the above symptoms are pretty general and can be a symptom of many diseases, so therefore a yeast infection would be hard to diagnose as the cause. However, if tests for other causes are negative and you are still experiencing recurring symptoms, talk with your doctor about treating you for a chronic yeast infection. Treatment for chronic yeast infection can be quite complex and involve months of antifungal medicine. Food changes may also be implemented to reduce the amount of yeast growth in the body. Foods rich in sugar and simple carbohydrates have been linked to yeast overgrowth.

Men can get yeast infections also. It is usually contracted by sex with a partner that has a yeast infection. Occasionally, some men who take antibiotics and those with weak immune systems will get a yeast infection. But a male with a yeast infection may have no symptoms. This is because the yeast lives inside the urethra of the male and is very hard to detect. Sometimes a man will develop a red, itchy, rash around the tip of the penis. The most effective treatment for a male yeast infection would be a prescription oral medication such as Diflucan.

Yeast infections can be annoying and can even disrupt your life. It is important to treat them promptly. If over the counter treatments aren't working, see your doctor. There may be another reason for your yeast infections.

 QUESTION:
Could a yeast infection interfere with menstrual cycle?
I had a yeast infection that started about 3 weeks ago and I was treated for it with Diflucan last week. The symptoms have gone away but my period is late. My cycle usually comes every 26-28 days with some cramping and tender breasts a few days before and I havent gotten any of the symptoms. Some websites say a yeast infection can interfere with your period and others say it doesnt so Im unsure of what to think. I dont think Im anymore stressed than I normally am with school & work. Even when I am stressed it comes on time. I'll wait for a week to take a HPT to hopefully rule out that possibility.
I also had a pap a week ago so I dont know if that plays any part. Could the GYN tell if a woman is pregnant from pressing on her abdomen and feeling on the insides when they insert their fingers in you?
False Alarm!!! Whew!!!!

 QUESTION:
Does your Menstrual Cycle help a Yeast infection?
I have a yeast infection and i was wondering if the menstrual cycle can help heal it? I cant seem to get rid of it even with over the counter medication/creams. I have not been able to get to a doctor yet i know i need to but i was just wondering if it helps it or makes it worse?

 ANSWER:
no. once your period is over the yeast infection will be there just as it was before. i no you said you tried the over the counter creams but i used to get them all the time and i get the over the counter tube full of cream the you put up in you and i get the "one night" instead of the seven night one and i get 2 of them and i use them back to back. use one one night and use the second one the second night because just one wont get rid of it but i promise it works. hope i helped, good luck.

 QUESTION:
Is it common to get a yeast infection after every menstrual cycle?
I am feeling a pattern here? I can't keep going to the dr each month but it feels the same. Should I maybe change tampons?

 ANSWER:
They do sell natural products for women in Whole Foods, YES!, and other health or natural food places. Try some. Seventh Generation, Beyond, Goddess Within, check their sites. Drugstore.com and SwansonVitamins.com carry natural products.
Read this info:
http://www.valeriesaxion.com/showNotesDetails/91.html

I think you have this: Overgrowth of the yeast Candida albicans in the intestines can occur from chronic inadequate digestion, overuse of antibiotics, and chronic over-consumption of sugars; and alcohol.

Ask your dr. about it or research it on the web. There are natural products from a few reputable places that will alleviate it. But you have to change your diet also, see above. And give your body some air!!!

 QUESTION:
Can chronic yeast infections affect menstrual cycle?
Can recurrent or chronic yeast infections change the menstrual timing?
Thx!

 ANSWER:
Yes, absolutely they can. But if you're having them that much, I really hope you're going to the doctor, so ask her about this. Also, there are STDs, like Chlamydia, that can act exactly like yeast infections, and cause you serious damage. If those go untreated you can have huge problems and sometimes lose your ability to have kids someday.

So please go see that doctor if it's that often.

The No White Foods Diet has been getting some press lately due to its endorsement by celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston.

It turns out that this easy dieting approach can also be a great way to determine what to eat and not to eat for suffers of Candida overgrowth. Basically the dieter eliminates any food that is white because usually white foods are high in sugar and starch which have a high glycemic index and also provide perfect fuel for Candida cells.

White Foods to Avoid

White Sugar and anything made with it.

White Flour and anything made with it.

White Potatoes

White Beans

White Rice

White Pasta

Foods to Choose

Whole wheat pasta

Brown rice

Full grain breads

Green leafy vegetables

Yams

Colorful vegetables

Of course there are exceptions to the no white foods rule such as cauliflower, parsnips, and yogurt as well as foods that aren't white but should be avoided such as brown sugar or fruits that have an acidic effect on the body. The dieter will have to have some knowledge of foods and ingredients in typical foods to fully be able to benefit from this approach.

Conclusions

The No White Foods Diet could be an easy rule of thumb to follow for Candida suffers and at the same time will allow the dieter to make healthier, nutritionally dense food choices that will also strengthen the immune system which is one of our best defenses against Candida overgrowth. Often it can be hard to remember all of the forbidden foods on the typical Candida eliminating diet, therefore using this more simplistic approach my really help the sufferer especially when eating out in restaurants.

 QUESTION:
Candida or systemic yeast infections: why do doctors act like yeast infections all throughout the body aren't?
possible?

If you have experienced yeast / candida infections in other parts of your body can you please tell me what you did to eliminate it. A natural diet I assume.
Where in my question did I say doctors are wrong?

evirusthelaye: Just to let you know, If you are the only one that answers I would rather delete my question then have you chosen as best answer.
WHY DO YOU ASSUME IT HAPPENED TO ME AND I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THIS FROM A NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR??

Here is the TRUTH since you like to go on assumptions. I at least ASK questions as part of the way I SEEK the to find the truth. a woman I know who was hiking / camping all over Australia, Hawaii and New Zealand came home to have her doctor give her this diagnosis- she did not define if he was a naturopath or a regular doctor. He gave her some pills or meds to take - I did not see them - and she told me about it. She said "did you know you can get a yeast infection throughout your body?" I said NO I did not know. Then I went to try and find info about it on the web. I could only find advertising info to buy products and ONE that was NOT selling anything. Seemed he was genuinely trying to help people and he gave them ways on how to "cure" it themselves by modification of diet and acidolpholis / bifidus.
Your answers are based on assumptions. And I am the "idiot" questioner??? You can email me if you want to continue this since this is not a chat format.
This I do KNOW yeast needs sugar to "grow"

use your assumptions on THAT!
Every industry INCLUDING medical / pharmaceutical are a money making industry and they need your money to continue and it has grown to a money making scheme - hence the insurance industry is booming. I know the HEALTH industry is a money making scheme also. However, there is truth in some of those industries also.

God gave us this earth and in it can provide for our life and also for cures. Not in a bottle, not in a scheme. Those that are greedy and selfish try to find ways to make you pay for it.

YES, diet does matter. You have been INSTRUCTED about what you should eat and what you should not for optimal health. If HE has given you life here HE has provided for your life HERE.

 ANSWER:
What Evirustheslaye and Skep said.

Systemic yeast infections are only seen in severely inmmunosuppressed people and you would require hospital care if you have such an infection. The alties want you to believe you have yeast everywhere in your body so you will buy their cleanses and detoxes- the amusing thing is, even if you did have a systemic yeast infection, the crap they tell you to take won't help anyway !

Such an infection s possible but is very rare and there is no reason for people to routinely believe they have such infections.

 QUESTION:
Can an untreated vaginal yeast infection lead to a systemic yeast infection?
I'm getting scared..I left a yeast infection untreated for a long time and only getting it sorted out now...I have a couple of other symptoms of systemic infection too but only about three or four and some of them, like fatigue and muscle aches might just be something different as I don't get them often.
Please help, I'm scared! Going to the doctor next week but I just want to know if it's possible if an untreated vaginal infection leads to a systemic infection?!

 ANSWER:
Systematic yeast is caused by severe immune disorders like HIV. It isn't caused by leaving a yeast infection untreated. I'm pretty sure your fine, if your still concerned, have your doctor test you for systematic yeast.

 QUESTION:
What are homeopathic remedies for systemic yeast infection?
I saw a program with a checklist for systemic yeast infection. I answered "yes" to nearly every question! I already know about yogurt and probiotics. What other things I should be incorporating?
This is NOT for specific treatment of a vaginal yeast infection, rather an overgrowth of fungus throughout the body. Instead of "homeopathic" maybe I should have specified "natural" remedies instead -- such as certain foods, vitamins, or supplements to use.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

 ANSWER:
This stuff. 98% kill of Candida Albicans. Triple blind placebo study completed in 1998 and found on Pubmed.org
http://www.microbiologybytes.com/video/Candida.html
Proof that Candida takes two forms and can become systemic.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7727934020345992708&q=candida+albicans+video&total=22&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=3 What feeds candida and what starves candida.

What I did. http://www.glycoscience.org is real. Dr. Hudson Freeze used "Mannose" to help improve his genetic patients which is found in aloe and this company has as well. He was angered by the fact that one of his patients dropped out to take this complex from glycoscience web site and as a result, he has been on a campaign to put down the company that sells it because he wants to market glyconutrients. However, he has no patent and Oxford University has taken down his slamming article against the company that sells it, because he is proven wrong.

In the interum, there is a triple blind pacebo study conducted by Doris Lefkowitz PhD who approves of medical dictionaries and this study shows that glyconutrient complex has a 98% kill of Candida Albicans... The mannose alone, has a 45% kill.

Kalos, from your other answer tried to report me to Yahoo as a solicitation and once they saw my answer was helpful they restored my points and my answer.

If you ever see Kalos Orisates answers again, feel free to report him if he calls osteopaths and chiropractors who have earned their degrees and have healed countless people in a non toxic manner quacks.

This yahoo forum is to be of people of quality and its time for people to take charge and report those who slam natural healing to the extent that it is actually harming people, because side affects of OTC drugs is blindness and liver damage.

It is the body, with the proper nutritional tools that are missing in the modern diet that can cure itself. Once your cells recognize the fungus, it eliminates it on its own safely with no side affects from drugs.

 QUESTION:
Is there a treatment or cure (quick) for systemic yeast infections(candida)?
What will a doctor do for you? How can a person control the night time sweats and other symptoms until treatment is available?
This would be the digestive type infection?

 QUESTION:
Anyone ever dealt with a Systemic Yeast Infection?
What symptoms did you experience? How can you find out for sure if that's what it is, and what's the best way to get rid of it?

 ANSWER:
bgroves, Candida albicans is a fungal (YEAST) organism that is present in everyone’s intestinal tract. It is normally kept under control by the immune system and by beneficial intestinal bacteria. This balance is upset when these bacteria are destroyed (typically by antibiotics), or when our immune function is impaired.

Once that balance is upset, Candida begins to proliferate and invade and colonize our body tissues. It most commonly appears as a vaginal yeast infection or as oral thrush. But Candida albicans can also spread inside the body and become a systemic problem.

Systemic candidiasis can be divided into 2 primary syndromes: candidemia and disseminated candidiasis (organ infection by Candida species). Deep organ infections due to Candida species are generally observed as part of the disseminated candidiasis syndromes and may involve one or more organs.

Candidemia
Candida species are currently the fourth most commonly isolated organism in blood cultures, and Candida infection is generally considered a nosocomial infection. The patient's history commonly reveals the following:
Several days of fever that is unresponsive to broad-spectrum antimicrobials; frequently the only marker of infection
Prolonged intravenous catheterization
A history of several key risk factors (see Pathophysiology)
Possibly associated with multiorgan infection
Physical examination results may include the following:
Fever
Macronodular skin lesions (approximately 10%)
Candidal endophthalmitis (approximately 10-28%)
Occasionally, septic shock (hypotension, tachycardia, tachypnea)
Other causes of candidemia without invasive disease include the following:
Intravascular catheter-related candidiasis: This entity usually responds promptly to catheter removal and antifungal treatment.
Suppurative thrombophlebitis: This is associated with prolonged central venous catheterization. Suppurative thrombophlebitis manifests as fever and persistent candidemia despite appropriate antifungal therapy and catheter removal. Sepsis and septic shock may develop.
Endocarditis: The frequency of endocarditis has recently increased. Candida species, primarily C albicans and Candida parapsilosis (>60% of cases), are the most common cause of fungal endocarditis. The aortic and mitral valves are most commonly involved. The endocarditis may be exogenous (due to direct inoculation during surgery) or endogenous (due to hematogenous dissemination during bloodstream invasion. Candida endocarditis is associated with 4 main risk factors, including intravenous heroin use (frequently associated with C parapsilosis infection), chemotherapy, prosthetic valves (approximately 50%), and prolonged use of central venous catheters. The physical examination reveals a broad range of manifestations, including fever unresponsive to antimicrobials, hypotension, shock, new or changing murmurs, and large septic emboli to major organs, a characteristic of fungal endocarditis.
Disseminated candidiasis: This is frequently associated with multiple deep organ infections or may involve single organ infection. Unfortunately, blood cultures are negative in up to 40-60% of patients with disseminated candidiasis. The history of a patient with presumptive disseminated candidiasis reveals a fever unresponsive to broad-spectrum antimicrobials and negative results from blood culture. Physical examination reveals fever (may be the only symptom) with an unknown source and associated sepsis and septic shock.

Successful therapy for serious systemic Candida infections requires initiation of antifungal therapy as early as possible, as soon as adequate culture results are obtained.

Different classes of antifungals are now available to manage any type of candidal infection. Azoles, fluconazole in particular,22 have become the mainstay of therapy over the past few years. These include topical and systemic agents. Posaconazole is the most recent addition to this group of antifungals. Polyenes include amphotericin B, liposomal amphotericin B formulations, and topical nystatin. Allylamines include terbinafine, which is formulated in a topical preparation and an oral tablet. The newest group of antifungals is echinocandins, including caspofungin, micafungin, and anidulafungin. Because of the excellent clinical efficacy of echinocandins, low incidence of adverse events, good safety profile, and ease of use, these agents may revolutionize the management of candidal infections in the near future.

Yeast infection is a fungal infection which is also called as Candidiasis. Yeast infection is found to be more prominent in the vagina. Yeast infection causes to the formation of certain irritation in the vagina. Yeast infection is also prone to affect the male folk through the means of sexual intercourse. More particularly, males who are not circumcised are prone to catch this infection. It is estimated that majority of women in one way or the other in their lifetime are affected by yeast infection. Yeast infections are mostly found in the vagina of the women but it causes no serious problems.

The cause of yeast infection is immense and varied but the prime cause is the sexual intercourse which is enjoyed in the ground of unprotected sex. Candida albicans is the prime cause of vaginal yeast infection. Candida is virtually caused due to sexual intercourse which is transmitted from one partner to the other. Unprotected sex often causes yeast infection. Candida along with certain other forms of yeast causes yeast infection which occurs in the vagina, rectum or in the mouth.

Yet another cause of yeast infection is the use of condoms which contains a lubricant known as nonoxynol-9, which kills the HIV virus. Diet is also a cause of yeast infection. There is certain yeast containing food which intensifies the frequency of the yeast infection. Hormones, either natural or simulated also create yeast infection. Yeast infection might also be caused when a person?s immune structure is not balanced and influenced properly. Besides Candida, cause of yeast infection might also be entitled to antibiotics. Prolonged use of antibiotics for the purpose of treatment of certain diseases leads to yeast infection. Inappropriate means of clothing like tainted and tight underwear may often lead in the formation of yeast infection.

Women undertaking contraceptive pills are prone to get the yeast infection. Moreover, certain injury in the vagina or in the vaginal membrane can to a certain extent cause yeast infection. Yeast infection can develop symptoms like continuous itching, irritation, discomfort and burning sensation in the vagina. A discharge mainly white in color is experienced due to yeast infection. Painful and swelling breasts, anxiety, depression, acne problem are certain other symptoms of yeast infection. It is estimated that regular use antibiotics, birth control pills also causes yeast infection. Yeast infection can be overcome by means of self treatment. Further, proper guidance from doctors is also necessary to be taken when the yeast infection becomes quite acute.

 QUESTION:
can a yeast infection delay your menstruation?
I was starting to spot before the yeast infection had occurred, and now that the yeast infection is occurring, I'm not spotting anymore.

 ANSWER:
ANYTHING can upset your cycle.....stress, any change in eating/sleeping patterns, medications....anything

 QUESTION:
Yeast Infection During Menstruation?
I have had yeast infections before and am pretty sure I am having one now, however, I thought they were supposed to go away once you started menstruating. I do not want to be crude, but there is still discharge along with menstrual fluids and itching. Is this normal or could it be something else? I will also note that I am sexually active, but with one (faithful) partner for over a year so chances of it being an STD are possible but unlikely.

 ANSWER:
No, it could still be a yeast infection. I would suggest that you take the standard o-t-c medication (I used the overnight single-dose, worked wonderfly) and then use a pad rather than a tampon for the next few days, it should probably all clear up within a week.

 QUESTION:
Yeast Infection at-home remedies and Menstruation?
I was going to try a few at home remedies that had very good responses for a yeast infection that has just started. The only thing is, I start my period tomorrow.. Can I still do them or wait a week?
Also, if I went to my doctor about it, what can she do considering I am on my period?

 ANSWER:
You'll want to wait until after your period to try home remedies for a yeast infection (some women even find that their period re-balances their vaginal pH to the point that their yeast infection subsides). With regard to the doctor, you might want to call ahead and let them know you're on your period. Depending on what sort of exam (pap smear or just a yeast check?) you're having done, they may want you to reschedule.

 QUESTION:
Spotting from UTI, yeast infection, or early menstruation?
so a few days ago i started being sore and itchy down there, and it also stings a little when i pee.

i still don't know whether i have a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection..

but today i started bleeding down there, and i still don't know if it's just spotting or if i started my period and it's normal.

i thought it was my period at first, but usually before i start my period i have a brownish discharge and that didn't happen. the blood just seems different than usual, so i don't know..

help?!

 ANSWER:
well if its itchy down there u might have an yeast infection, if it stings when u be u have UTI and if there is bleeding its ur period.it might be older blood.inside u.

 QUESTION:
How do I know when a yeast infection is cleared up?
I had a yeast infection and did not buy treatment for it because I heard the pH in your vagina changes once menstruation starts (my period was supposed to start like the next day). I am on my period now and for the first couple days it was obvious I still had the infection. Now the itchiness and uncomfortable feeling is gone and the discharge is slowing down. Should I still buy over the counter medication? Yogurt? Or just wait and see how things turn out once my period is over?

 ANSWER:
This used to happen to me quite a bit - a couple days before my period it would feel like a yeast infection was starting and then once my period started it would go away. Then I would be fine for a while (even several periods) and then it would happen again.

You could wait it out but if you keep getting symptoms, you might want to see your doctor or address it with over the counter meds. A yeast infection indicates an imbalance in your body and if you let it get too far out of hand, it can affect your whole body. Just keep a close eye on it and be sure to boost your immune system with healthy eating.

 QUESTION:
Why do some insist Circumcision reduces the risk of STDs when research indicates otherwise?
Research, as cited below shows that the effect of circumcision is to increase the chances of many STDs being transmitted, while reducing the risk of very few. The frequently cited information about HIV transmission is not indicated to hold true in western nations, for various reasons.

"Recent studies have demonstrated that circumcised men are at increased risk of contracting gonorrhea, syphilis and genital warts. Men are at equal risk for developing human papillomavirus lesions and herpesvirus infections regardless of circumcision status. At least four studies have shown human immunodeficiency virus infection to occur more commonly in circumcised men"

- Storms MR. AAFP Fact Sheet on neonatal circumcision: a need for updating. Am Fam Physician 1996;54(4):1216-17.

further

"The only consistent trend is that uncircumcised males may be more susceptible to GUD, while circumcised men are more prone to urethritis. Currently, in developed nations, urethritis is more common than GUD [genital ulcer disease]. In summary, the medical literature does not support the theory that circumcision prevents STDs"

- Van Howe RS. Does circumcision influence sexually transmitted diseases?: A literature review. BJU Int 1999; 83, Suppl 1:52-62.

and

"Cross-sectional studies. Cross-sectional studies have been carried out in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia to determine the effects of circumcision upon STDs. All studies have found no significant effect of circumcision on the incidence of STD. Laumann et al. reported that circumcised men are slightly more likely to have both a bacterial and a viral STD in their lifetime. The British National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles reported that circumcised males have slightly more STDs but the difference was not judged to be statistically significant. Richters et al. found that non-circumcised men are slightly more likely to have penile candidiasis (yeast).

Conclusion. The evidence does not support non-therapeutic circumcision to prevent STD infection. On balance, non-circumcision is to be preferred because of the freedom from complications and other adverse effects."

 ANSWER:
Exactly it is well weird that loas of Americans get this done. Why on earth would you? There are mo benefits and everyone just does it cause everyone else is. I could never do thsis to my son as it is totally pointless and why would you want to cause them needless pain?

Man Ameircans get it done as they think it is cleaner (which it isnt). Its funny that I saw a programme on female circumscion and the women in Africa were doing it cause they thought it was cleaner on the girls! Even though we know thats ridiculous so whats the difference? Both lots of people have been brainwashed.

When fighting recurring yeast infections, your diet and lifestyle are important tools. Knowledge is also important and knowing what your candida triggers are can help you manage this problem in your life.

There are candida foods to avoid and foods that you can and should eat that will help you or that will hurt your efforts. Yeast infections thrive on yeast foods and on sugar and certain foods and beverages can work either for you or against you in your quest to normalize your body?s chemistry.

We all have a certain amount of yeast in our body. As a matter of fact we have all sorts of different types of microorganisms swimming inside us and some of them have very important roles. The candida albicans need to be there but when they overpopulate your body, that?s when the problems start.

Some people are very prone to excessive bacteria of this sort and those people can find that they need to look at diet and lifestyle very carefully to be able to manage the yeast population in their body. The alternative could be discharge, bloating, food cravings, sinus problems, insomnia or listlessness and other symptoms. Candida is a growing health concern that is becoming more mainstream as people recognize it as a recurring infection in their bodies that can become more than bothersome.

Chemistry plays a big part of your body?s health and factors like your pH level can impact how fast unhealthy yeasts can thrive and grow. Consuming alkalizing foods and drinks can be a big help and you might need to follow a strict diet for a time to learn about what your candida triggers are.

What about beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages?

Alcohol contains two things that candida love. Yeast and sugar. Because of that, you could create a candida feast inside your body if you are already at high level of albicans or low body pH level for various reasons. It?s very advisable to refrain from drinking beer, wine or any fermented food or liquid when you are dealing with yeast infections.

Can I ever drink beer again?

You don?t? necessarily have to remove these beverages from your diet forever but while you?re discovering what makes your candida infections flare up it?s wise to remove all yeast infection diet prohibited foods and drinks for at least four weeks. Many experts will suggest that after that period, you begin adding one restricted food at a time to your diet in order to see what impact it has on your body.

Another way to ensure that a small amount of a candida diet restricted food or drink is not going to have a big impact on you is to follow a list of approved foods and drinks as well as work with other natural remedies so that your body is continuously working towards a harmonious environment. In a case like this, it could be that your body is at such a healthy level that an occasional splurge with alcoholic beverages won?t be detrimental to your body chemistry.

 QUESTION:
What are the causes of chronic/ recurring vaginal yeast infections?
I've had chronic/ recurring yeast infections for months. The doctor keeps giving me treatments but they usually go away for a few days and then come back. I've heard that you can re-infect yourself. What are some factors that can cause you to re-infect yourself? What are some other causes? I am aware of wearing cotton underwear, keeping clean/dry, not using scented soap, tampons, etc. to prevent them. Are there any other ways to prevent them?

What medications have you tried?

A few tricks to avoiding those pesky yeast infections.

Avoid douching as it can throw off your natural vaginal ph.
When bathing try not to wash the vagina internally as it self cleans.
Eat more yogurt as most yogurt contains a active culture.

If you are sexually active you must be fully treated before engaging in sexual activity.
Your partner can actually have a yeast infection too.He may have contracted the yeast infection from you, if so he will need to be treated by a Doctor too. Failure do get him treated will and can cause you to become reinfected.

Has your gynecologist tried prescribing Difulcan?
QUESTION:
Has anyone got rid of recurring yeast infections, how?
I'm not even 18 yet and I seem to get yeast infections almost every month. The doctor told me to abide by the obvious rules to preventing yeast infections and I know all that.

If anyone here has had recurring yeast infections for an extended period of time, how did you eventually get rid of them??

 ANSWER:
Eat a lot of yogurt. The bacteria in the yogurt helps to fight the fungus/bacteria that cause yeast infections. I'd say to eat at least one serving every day. They also say you can apply yogurt directly to the vaginal area, but I wouldn't recommend it...

 QUESTION:
what do recurring yeast infections have to do with diabetes ?
ok so in the past 3 months ive had 2 yeast infections and I've gone to the doctor for both. my doctor asked if diabetes ran in my family an I told her that both my grandfathers have it. my doctor said that if I keep getting these infections she's going to have to test me for diabetes. I'm kinda confused because I don't see the conection.

 ANSWER:
Basically, yeast, which is a fungus, grows in warm, moist areas making the vagina a jackpot location for an infection. Yeast feeds off sugar so if you add high blood glucose levels, the infection will grow like wildfire. Actually, the yeast infections were what prompted me to start looking after my diabetes. I was one of those people who thought "I don't feel bad so why worry about it till I do". After living for months with almost constant yeast infections due to high blood sugar, I couldn't take it anymore. I was buying OTC treatments nearly every week and even went to the doctor for Diflucan. They would subside for a few days then it would start all over again. I am currently on insulin to control my sugar and the infection has gone away. It only takes a few minutes to have yourself checked. Why not just go ahead and do it? I can assure you, if you are diabetic and getting yeast infections they will not go away until you have your sugar under control. I had never had a yeast infection in my life before I became a diabetic.

 QUESTION:
What is the cause of recurring yeast infections?
I seem to be always getting yeast infections. I go a few months without one and then it comes back. sometimes they are not as bothersome as others, but i am tired of getting them. Have taken prescriptions for them. No one seems to be able to give me the answer, not even doctors!

 ANSWER:
You should really talk to your gynecologist about this and ask for some blood work to be done. If you are also tired a lot, very thirsty and need to pee a lot, you could very likely be a diabetic. Also, are you using a pill to treat the infection or a cream? If you are using the pill, doctors are finding that one pill is not enough and often prescribe 2 or 3 to make sure that it is completely gone. It is possible that you simply have an infection that does not clear up completely. Also, if you wear thongs of panties that are not cotton, try switching to all cotton for a while. They allow air to get to those areas and help to keep them drier, which will also help prevent infections. Best wishes.

 QUESTION:
Why do i keep getting recurring yeast infections? what can i do about it?
For the past 4 months i have been getting yeast infections. i get them at least once a month. I've cut down on sugar, started taken probiotic supplements and started eating yogurt and garlic often. still no help. every month right before my period i get the infection. i dont know what's causing this problem and how to get rid of it permanently. please help.

 ANSWER:
It's hormone changes that likely bring on the yeast, don't ask me why but it happens. Try cranberry juice if it's in your bladder. If it still persists, a CandidaGone cleanse or yeast cleanse kit might help you, follow the directions and eat the right foods. Cleanses usually available at health food stores, or those that sell those type of products. Candida is basically related to yeast, so that cleanse would kill yeast too.

Hope this helps.

How do I know if I have yeast infection? A question most women ask especially if this is their first yeast infection. Fist, let us discuss what is yeast infection and what are the factors affecting yeast infection.

Yeast infection is a very annoying condition especially for women who are commonly infected by this disease. Yeast infection is caused by the fungus Candida Albans which are always present in the vagina. Increase growth or reproduction of Candida Albans leads to yeast infection.

There are many factors contributing to the propagation of yeast infection that women should know and some of them are:

-Imbalance in your system due to antibiotics and stress
-Wearing tight undergarments or underwear materials that promotes sweating
-Pregnancy
-Taking Pills
-Frequent douching
-Hormonal replacement for menopause
-Diabetes or increased sugar level

Even with the knowledge of the different factors affecting yeast infection, you will still ask the question "how do I know if I have yeast infection?" especially if this is your first yeast infection. A doctor can tell you if you have yeast infection by examining your vaginal discharge under a microscope but initially you can tell that you have yeast infection if you have these symptoms:

-Severe itching, swelling and burning sensation in and around your vagina , so bad that you can hardly walk.
-Vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese.
-Vaginal discharge that smells like bread or beer.

Asking the question "how do I know if I have yeast infection" is very important to have the right diagnosis. While it is important to know all about yeast infection and to know that what you have is really yeast infection, finding cure for your yeast infection is of course your main goal to put an end to your sufferings. Prescribed medicines may cure yeast infection but if you experience recurring yeast infections don't ignore it as it may lead to chronic yeast infection. Most women have recurring yeast infection and this should not be ignored.

If you have tried prescribed medicines and it brought you nothing but temporary relief, do not despair because yeast infection can be cured permanently. There is an all natural way and drug free treatment for yeast infection that treats not only the symptoms but the root cause of yeast infection. If you like to consider this option you can find more information here 12 Hour Cure for Yeast Infection

 QUESTION:
Can a penile yeast infection cause pain in the testicles?
My boyfriend has been taking an antibiotic for a while now and we recently found out that he has a yeast infection. He has been having testicular pain as well and we were wondering: Could that be from the yeast infection or should we be worried about something more serious?

 ANSWER:
I believe it could be due to the yeast infection though obviously it would be dependent on the nature of the pain etc. If his testicles are itchy too then I guess that'd increase the likelihood of the pain being related to the infection. I'm assuming you know not to give him any more antibiotics! Also eating garlic as part of a meal everyday helped me a lot, though my yeast infection was in my stomach.

 QUESTION:
yeast infection?
ok so like last week me and my boyfriend had sex (for the first time for him, and the time i had sex before that was about a month ago) and for about 3 days it was itchy and sore and i think a little smelly discharge so i told my ma, and she said it was probably a yeast infection. so i took canesten friday night before i went to bed (the pill in your vag) and i've been using the cream which had been fine until tonight (wednesday) and it got SO ITCHY when i was out. like the itchiest ever, so i went into a bathroom and it was SWOLLEN AS FUCK no lie it looks like i've got testicles or something.

HELP ME.
remember, my boyfriend never had sex or even TOUCHED another girl before me.
(aw how sweet.)
and i've only had sex twice before him. WE USED PROTECTION. I HAVE USED PROTECTION (condoms never broke) EVERY TIME I HAD SEX.

 ANSWER:
Go to the doctor just to be on the safe side. Get tested for STD just in case. You might be allergic to whatever you are using. You will also swell if you've been scratching. I can only use products that contain miconozole (Monistat). The ones that contain Ticonozole make me itch even worse.

If you have a yeast infection, your discharge will look like cottage cheese. You usually have a smelly discharge with bacterial vaginosis.

Again, go to the doctor.

 QUESTION:
Can Yeast Infection Cause Testicle pain?
Right, well im a 16 year old male and Ive been experiencing pain in the bottom part of both of my testicles for about a month now, but at the same time i discovered this i found out that i had a few of the symptoms for oral yeast infection and penile yeast infection. I had found white substance which cannot be scraped away and can sometimes be itchy on my tongue and to roof of my mouth, I also found that my penis head had become quite dry and there was a white substance coming off of it when i rubbed the on or underneath the head of my penis and the head of my penis is also quite inflamed and discolored .....on thing that puzzles me is that there is no itching, could it still be a yeast infection? and i have been on multiple trips to my gp and he says he doesn't know about the testicle pain....so i was just wondering if yeast infection can cause testicle pain? thanks help would be much appreciated.

 QUESTION:
How Often Do I take Diflucan for my yeast infection?
I have supply of diflucan. I believe are 150mg each. i might be wrong i'd have to check again.
But my question is to anyone who would know or experience a yeast infection that affected their prostate or testicles and urinary tract etc.
I am a 25 year old Male, 165 pounds.
I've had a yeast infection for along time and am wondering how often do I take Diflucan and how long?
thanks

 ANSWER:
If you've had yeast infection for a long time then it sounds that you are not addressing the real cause of yeast infection - Candida overgrowth.

While Diflucan is effective at getting rid of yeast infection symptoms, it does not address the root cause of yeast infection.

What will - is a natural yeast infection treatment which is made up of a few dietary changes, lifestyle changes and using herbal remedies such as (garlic, tea tree oil and vinegar) to treat the symptoms.

I gathered 2 articles that covers the above in a little more detail and hope it will help you get rid of yeast infection fast.

There are two things that can make the overgrowth of Candida yeast so challenging. First, this type of infection can be both systemic and digestive. Second, doctors will often treat only the associated symptoms and not the underlying cause. When Candida yeast begins to grow out of control, it will quickly spread while impacting the body's immune system. This means as the infection grows the body begins to lose its ability to fight the infection, creating a double-edged sword.

Many times, a person will visit one doctor after another, complaining of symptoms that include fatigue, headaches, muscle and joint pain, mood swings, and weight gain, only to be treated for the wrong thing. Considering the diagnosis for Candida yeast is so simple, a blood test or stool sample along with medical history, this is a serious injustice. Even worse, if the overproduction of Candida yeast is not corrected, it can cause serious organ damage and in severe cases, death.

The bottom line is that an overgrowth of Candida yeast will destroy your health and possibly life. However, when diagnosed and treated, you can have a full recovery, leading to a long, healthy life. The interesting thing about Candida yeast is that it grows naturally in the body and is considered good bacteria. However, due to various contributors, once the yeast begins to grow too fast and too much, it actually changes itself from bacteria to a type of fungus.

When maintained at proper levels, Candida yeast works within the digestive tract in helping a person absorb nutrients. This type of bacteria also grows in a woman's vagina, where it can be beneficial, as long as the levels are low. The problem starts when a woman starts taking birth control pills or people take antibiotics long-term. Other factors that can cause problems include having chemotherapy or taking cortisone. As these substances are put in the body, they begin to kill good bacteria. As a result, Candida yeast goes crazy, literally overpowering the digestive system.

Again, if Candida yeast is treated right away, it is still bacteria but if left untreated, it transforms into a fungus, similar to a plant with actual roots. Over time, these roots begin pushing through the mucosal lining of the intestine. When this occurs, the Candida yeast will spread throughout the body, reaching the throat, skin, lungs, sinuses, reproductive system, kidneys, lungs, nervous system, and brain.

With the spread of Candida yeast, more and more symptoms begin to appear, making it even more difficult to diagnosis. While there are times with antibiotics, cortisone, and even birth control pills are necessary, taking in high doses or over long periods is straight out dangerous. Therefore, if you are ever prescribed any of these drugs, talk to your doctor about alternatives so you can avoid dealing with an overgrowth of Candida yeast.

Most medical professionals feel strongly that testing is the key to bringing the problem of Candida yeast overgrowth under control. Again, the symptoms are often treated without proper testing being done. This means although some symptoms may subside or even go away for some time, the yeast is still growing and wrecking havoc on the body. On the other hand, if more aggressive testing were done, the overproduction of Candida yeast would be identified early, saving the patient tons of health problems and mental frustration.

Considered an aggressive type of parasite, Candida yeast has a unique ability of attaching itself to the intestinal wall where it becomes a permanent part of the body. This problem has become so serious that experts now estimate some 30 million Americans live with the effects of Candida yeast overgrowth. Even more frustrating is that if only symptoms are treated, meaning the problem is not completely corrected; the yeast overgrowth problem will return 95% of the time.

The bottom line is that Candida yeast literally poisons the body's tissues by sending out more than 75 known toxins. As the tissue becomes contaminated, the body's immune system starts to break down, followed by other organ shutdown. The roots that grow from the fungus will break through the intestinal wall, as mentioned. When this occurs, the toxins begin to leak in what is known as Leaky Gut Syndrome. Remember, the mucosal lining is known as the first line of defense or a protective barrier between the intestines and bloodstream.

That means if the barrier is altered, toxins and other foreign waste products start to pollute the body. In addition to the toxins flowing freely in the body, the other challenge is that the body is no longer able to absorb nutrients. Interestingly, many people with high levels of Candida yeast will struggle with excessive weight gain but they are also not getting proper nutrition, they are actually living with malnutrition. As the intestinal wall is compromised, the digestive system is mechanically and chemically altered.

While having an overgrowth of Candida yeast is devastating, there are ways of bringing the problem under control. Talk to your doctor to see what methods he or she would recommend. More than likely, you would be placed on a special diet, given a list of herbs and supplements to take, and go through some type of colon cleansing process. As soon as the Candida yeast is back to normal levels, you will feel so much better.

 QUESTION:
Is it bad to take yeast infection medication if you don't have a yeast infection?
I can't tell whether or not I have a yeast infection. I'm a little itchy, but not like I usually am when I have a yeast infection. I tried to buy a tester kit at CVS, but they didn't have any. I'd prefer to just take some Monistat just in case, but is that bad for me?

 QUESTION:
How can you safely relieve a yeast infection when pregnant.?
I have a yeast infection and I am 9 weeks pregnant. I'm positive it isn't an STD because I just took STD tests as part of prenatal care. I also just got off antibiotics, and did one of those Vagisil tester things. I am seeing my doctor, but not until Thursday, and if you have ever had a yeast infection, you would understand why I don't know if I can wait until then for relief. Is there anything safe I can use until Thursday when I see the doctor?

 QUESTION:
YEAST INFECTION? what is thisssss!!?
okay first of all, im on bc pills and am sexually active.
and i try my best to urinate after sex. theres only 2 in like 5 times i dont.

i dont know if its just my natural vaginal discharge, or if there really is something wrong. the discharge white-ish yellow most of the time. and it can get thick sometimes. and it smells like yeast. i dont know what it is. this has been going on for awhile now,

so when it got too annoying i went to walgreens and bought an at home PH tester. the test said i most likely have a yeast infection or like something else, i donr remember what it was called.

so i went to the doctor and she took a urin sample and said it was probably a yeast infection. so she gave me a pill for vaginal infections and i took it. it worked for a few days it seemed like, but the yest smell and weird discharge came back.

so i went again about a month later and she gave me the same pill and said to take it at the same time as some anti-fungal cream stuff that you insert into your vagina with a seringe type thing. (so i could "attack it" from both ends, if ya know what i mean lol) i did this. that was over a month ago and ive had the same problem ever since then. it never went away. it seems like nothing is working.

also, it seems like the smell and expecially the discharge is more when it's hot. i dont know why. but it is.

can someone please help me. im going to the doctor again soon. but i would like some input or answers from you guys because i wont be able to get in to the doc for while.

has anyone gone through this? helpppp!

 ANSWER:
A normal discharge should be whit clear or light yellowish..Mines is always white, & smells weird 2...But its perfectly..Just as long as it doesnt smell 2 strong.

Yeast infections are wen Of course your vagina is infected with a certain usually harmless bacteria..It is very itchy & if noyt well maintained can get worse & may need serious special treatment.

 QUESTION:
Yeast Infection gone wrong? (Please don't be rude)?
I was on antibiotics for a tonsil infection when I started noticing I was very itchy in my vaginal area and was having a lot of odorless, white, clumpy discharge. I bought the Vagisil pH tester and the results said that my pH level was indicative of a yeast infection. It was my first, so I just made an appointment with my OB GYN and bought some Vagisil anti itch cream. The doctor wasn't able to see me until the following week. And, by that time the itching and irritation had become so unbearable, that I went out and got some Monistat 3.

I just finished the third treatment and there is little to no itching or discharge. However, I must have been scratching myself in my sleep, and I've basically scratched myself raw. I have 6-7 cuts/raw spots and the pain is HORRIBLE. It's so bad I can barely walk, move, or sit down. I tried putting neosporin on it, and it just seemed to make the stinging worse. I've just been taking warm showers, and drying it thoroughly (with a fan). But, the pain is still really intense. I can't even pee without being brought to tears.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I was a little worried about the neosporin because it is an antibiotic cream, and antibiotics were the reason I first contracted the yeast infection. However, I don't know if neosporin would have the same effects as amoxcilin. I'm not sure what to do. I just want to relieve the pain, because these spots seem to be healing at a snail's pace.

 ANSWER:
Ouch! I feel ya sista! Ok so what you need to do is first. Where some gloves to bed so hopfully if you start scratching you'll wake up before you do any damage. Take warm sea salt baths. This is not going to feel that awesome at first but it will heal you quicker. When you get out of the bath use neosporin and lay, legs spread, in front of fan. Only Oral antibiotics are strong enough to mess with our PH balance. Amoxcillin is a really strong one too. Use warm washclothes for itching and dont foreget the gloves! I hope you start feeling better... ~ tons of love~

 QUESTION:
I think I may have a yeast infection?
I have a problem I went to the doctor awhile ago, did a urine sample and it turned out I had a bladder infection. She gave me pills for it, but I didn't take them properly.. (i know, i should have..) but they were SO hard to swallow. I have a hard enough time with pills already, and these ones were extremely bitter + did not slide down my throat easily. it actually hurt. but anyways i couldn't take it any longer so I just started taking them normally a couple days ago. It doesn't burn when I pee anymore but.. the pain in my vagina has not gone away. So, I looked up the symptoms of a yeast infection, and i have them all. the burning, irritation, that white liquidy stuff. I've also had a fever. The thing is i really REALLY don't wanna go to the doctor about it.. I'm 15, never had a physical done or anything and I know if i go in about this.. she'll have to "examine" me. And I'm just not comfortable. at all. its kinda scary actually what do you think i should do? keep taking the pills for a couple weeks and see if it goes away? Apparently they have these tester things you can buy at the store that tell you if you have a yeast infection.. should I get one of those? Then get monistat if i do have one?
Thanks..

 ANSWER:
You should get the test and take it right away. Then call a gynecologist and explain your symptoms and let them know if the test came out positive or negative. They'll probably want you to get an examination. I know its embarassing but if kept for too long, a yeast infection can turn nassstay. Or it could be some kind of infection. Don't want to scare you but you need to get it straightened out. Good luck

Vaginal discharge is a common clinical problem with many etiologies. In the past vague terms such as "non-specific vaginitis" or "distracted lower genital tract infection" often was used to describe circumstances that produce vaginal discharge.
Recently, careful definitions of clinical syndromes and increased knowledge about the specific agents that cause genital infection in women have made more precise diagnosis possible.
Can a vaginal yeast infection spread to the anus or cause anal itching?
I just recently got off of antibiotics for bronchitis, which I know have been known to cause yeast infections. Personally, I have never had one before but I have been experiencing a vaginal itch, along with discharge - classic signs of a yeast infection. My only concern is that I am having itching in my anal area as well. Is it possible that the yeast infection could have spread to my anus or that the irritation has spread to that area?
Thank you!

 QUESTION:
How to treat a vaginal yeast infection during pregnancy?
I am on the 10th week of pregnancy and I have a vaginal yeast infection. My doctor has prescribed me metronidazole and miconazole nitrate. I read about the metronidazole and found out that it PROBABLY can be harmfull (birth defects). So, now I would like to know how harmfull can be the yeast infection if I do not treat it during the pregnancy. Or may be the is a way to treat it with something save?

 ANSWER:
When doctors decide on what medicine to give you, they weight the pro's and con's of the medicine. Also when you say that is can be harmful this means that they did a test and most likely 1 out of 400,000 babies had something wrong when they were born, even if it had nothing to do with the medicine they still have to put that caution on there. If you don't treat it your going to be in pain and i don't recommend doing that. Talk to your doctor but again he knows your pregnant and if he thought it would hurt the baby he wouldn't give it to you in the first place. Good Luck!
