Scalp Infection Pictures - Scalp Disease Pictures, Images of Fungal ...

Fungal infections usually affect the skin because they live off keratin, a protein that makes up skin, hair and nails. Fungal skin infections are divided into groups depending on what type of organism is involved. The full name depends on the location of the infection on the body.

A fungal infection is caused by a type of fungus called a dermophyte that infects the top layer of the skin, hair or nails. Fungal infections of the skin are known as ringworm (tinea). There are many types of ringworm, including body ringworm (tinea corporis), jock itch (tinea cruris), athlete's foot (tinea pedis), scalp ringworm (tinea capitis), nail ringworm (tinea unguium), and beard ringworm (tinea barbae), which is rare. In most cases, these infections are not life threatening. However, they may lead to more serious bacterial infections in the elderly and those who have conditions that affect the immune system, such as AIDS.

Fungal infection of the hair, skin, or nails. When it's on the skin, tinea usually begins as a small red area the size of a pea. As it grows, it spreads out in a circle or ring. Tinea is often called ringworm because it may look like tiny worms are under the skin (but of course, they're not!). Because the fungi that cause tinea (ringworm) live on different parts of the body, they are named for the part of the body they infect. Scalp ringworm is found on the head, and body ringworm affects the arms, legs, or chest.

Ringworm of the body looks like a rash that forms one-half to one-inch, ring-shaped, pink or red patches with a clear center. The rash may itch slightly. Jock itch appears around the groin area (but not on the penis) and looks like a red, ring-like rash. Jock itch can be extremely itchy and form small, painful blisters. Athlete's foot appears between the toes as a scaly, itchy rash. It can range from mild irritation to cracking and peeling, making the skin quite sore and more susceptible to bacterial infection.

Vaginal candidiasis is a common yeast infection of the vagina. A yeast infection may be the first sign that a woman is HIV+. Symptoms include severe itching, burning, and a thick discharge, often white in color. It is possible that an infection such as unrecognized TB may be causing a vaginal yeast infection. Nystatin tablets are used for treatment. Clotrimazole ointment is another treatment, which is sold over-the-counter as Gyne-Lotrimin, Lotrimin, or Mycelex. Studies have shown that HIV-negative women may only have to take the drug DiFlucan one time to treat this condition. Always consult with your doctor before beginning treatment.

Scalp ringworm may cause round patches of hair loss, broken hair, and/or an itchy, scaly scalp. Scalp ringworm is extremely contagious among children. Nail ringworm is more common on the toenails than fingernails, and makes the nail appear thickened and dull. The infected part of the nail may crumble away from the rest of the nail. Sometimes a fungal infection on one part of the body can cause a rash on another part of the body, which is an allergic reaction to the fungus.

Some fungi reproduce through tiny spores in the air. You can inhale the spores or they can land on you. As a result, fungal infections often start in the lungs or on the skin. You are more likely to get a fungal infection if you have a weakened immune system or take antibiotics.

The itching, flaking, redness, and thickened skin of fungal infections can look just like other types of dermatitis or skin allergies. In fact, eczematous skin often becomes infected with fungi, so both are present simultaneously. Doctors use microscopes to help them diagnose skin fungus infections, so there's no way you can really be sure at home. The Advisory will focus on the five most easily recognized skin fungus infections, but even after looking at the pictures don't be too confident.

  1. QUESTION:
    male yeast infection?
i noticed a blocky red area in one spot on my penis (on the bottom side of the head) after masterbating. im concerned cause idk what it is. i seen pictures of male yeast infections and i kinda looks like that but im not sure. i do have a pocket pussy and i didnt clean it very good at all a couple times last week. (i know im an idiot) but i also had sex with a girl like 4 weeks ago, i used a condom but it was shady cause she didnt want me to turn on the lights. ive seen pics of herpes but this doesnt have any on the sores or bumps like the pictures ive seen do. its also going down, it was bigger but no its barely noticeable. im just concernd that i may have picked up herpes from this chick cause i just met her. (which will be the last one night stand i'll do..... wasnt intressting w/out love). or could it be a male yeast infection cause im just plan dirty.
the hole is kinda itchy but not really bad at all. it was kinda raised very slightly. now its not.
i also have a weak heart soo i have a lower immune system. and no ive never had a cold sore. im not big on sleeping around this chick was my 3rd partner. alcohol makes you do stupid shit.

    • ANSWER:
Males can only get a yeast infection from having sex with a woman. It has nothing to do with being dirty. So, since you had sex with a woman I would say it is very possible. To be safe and to make absolutey sure it isn't something more serious I would see a doctor. Even if it is just a yeast infection, it would be a good idea to get it treated because it might not go away on it's own.

  2. QUESTION:
yeast infection - how to ask doctor?
i am 99.99% sure i have a yeast infection, i've spent so long researching it trying to find ways to get rid of it and everyone says the same thing - if it's your first, go to the doctor!

so i have a doctors appointment tomorrow, but what do i say?!

if you need convincing that i know what i'm on about
    i have:
itching, sore swollen vulva, dryness, cottage cheese like discharge, uncomfortable/burning when urinating and i think there's maybe a cut before the opening of my vagina too?
i also saw pictures of yeast infections, gross i know, and it matched. :(

SO. what do i say to my doctor? :(
    "i think i have a yeast infection"?
gimme some tips please first time infected!!

also i did the whole shebang the other day before i was sure it was a yeast infection
yknow, like "fingered" then oral sex then sex
is there any chance this has made it worse?
    AND
can i ask the doctor to check if i'm pregnant at the same time for free dyou think?

    • ANSWER:
You got it! "I think I have a yeast infection" is the thing to say! This is only for your first time. Once your doctor has confirmed that it is indeed a yeast infection (and it definitely sounds like it is) you can treat yourself with over the counter stuff in the future. Yes, your activity may have made it worse, but it's ok. It's just a yeast infection. Refrain from everything until you get through your entire treatment. Put a little medicine on your partner's penis also or he could re-infect you.

edit: Hey, so how did it go? You ok?

  3. QUESTION:
Do I have herpes or yeast infection?
Ok, so I am wondering if I have genital herpes or intertrigo, a type of yeast infection. I am leaning towards and hoping it is intertrigo. I feel it is the yeast infection because it is a macerated, raw, and scaly like rash that is dry and moist at the same time. It was rather widespread from the top of my underwear line all the way down to the underside of my inner thigh, adjacent to my labia. In the skin fold! I also have urine that appears cloudy at times which I have heard can happen with yeast.

Anyways, the rash had defined red edges and a lighter color center. I didnt notice blistering but maybe raised skin color areas. I also experienced folliticus on front in pubic area, which is basically ingrown hairs. They can be popped and aren't painful. Ive heard thats from bacteria. My rash only really itches when I touch it from time to time and can hurt when i walk sometimes. The itch isnt in a generalized spot, more like all over. My vulva has been rather itchy too! The itch is predominately in the middle of the night at like 2 am! I have tried anti fungal cream which I have now heard isnt the best thing for it considering intertrigo can be bacterial and moist creams aggravate it. Keeping it dry is supposedly the best thing. The anti fungal cream helped relieve itch but didnt cure it. I dealt with this rash as though it was intertrigo hoping it isnt herpes.

I developed this rash 2 weeks after having unprotected sex. I had been sleeping with him for 1 month and everything was fine, no signs of anything before. He told me he wasnt having sex with anyone else but with guys who knows. I had the rash for 4 weeks and it seemed to eventually clear up on its own. I tried to avoid eating yeast products when possible and loose clothes and only cotton underwear. The rash was moist and glossy and seemed to leave wet spots in my underwear which seemed yellowish.

The reason I worry is because a few days before the rash cleared I developed 2 PAINLESS ulcers on the UPPER OUTER left side of my labia. I could touch them and they dont hurt. They look like little canker sores. Also I developed two cuts, or fissures as they call them on my upper outer labia. I have reseached and sites have said these are both common with herpes and intertrigo so im concerned. They occur from trauma to the area which could be from me scratching. Anyways I had no discharge besides normal clear to white WATERY discharge that I feel I have always gotten. Nothing thick or cottage cheese like.

Anyways my rash cleared over a month ago and my vulva is still itchy at times and sometimes where the rash was. I have looked at pictures of both herpes and intertrigo and I get worried. The ulcers are the part that scare me but there was only 2 and they didnt hurt to touch and NOTHING, not the rash or these ulcers were near my vagina or anus or inner labia. SOMEONE PLSSS help! I am making an appointment to see my doctor but there is no rash at this point. I know I shouldve went back when I had it but I am just so nervous! Please give me your honest opinion on what you think it could be! Once again a widespread rash with raised red edges in my left skin fold. ONLY LEFT SKIN FOLD NOT RIGHT (although further into the weeks I felt like it looked like it may be trying to spread to the right but didnt! THANKSSS SO MUCH! serious answers only are greatly appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
I don't think it's herpes, but it could be another STD. It could also be another infection completely.

That being said, no matter what this is, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

  4. QUESTION:
I thought I had a yeast infection, but I think I have a small cut on my clitoris?
Ok so saturday evening my vagina was itching alittle, so I did scratch it anyway on sunday it was burning itching but I wasn't having alot of discharge it was clear, it didn't look like cottage cheese but I was reading that a yeast infection won't always have cottage cheese look to your discharge. So I went and bought a summer eve douche and some vagisil, it felt alot better monday it was still itchy but not unbearable, yesterday and today have been much better I didn't have to use any itch cream however I still noticed that my clitoris was red and a little swollen but not as bad as it was, so today when I took a shower I decided to use another douche to be sure it stays clean, and omg i burned so bad a little of the liquid got on my clitoris and it felt like it was on fire, so I get out of the shower to and look with a mirror and I found a small cut, could that have been the reason for all the itching and burning? and is there a different way to treat a cut in that area? Is it something I need to go to the doctor for, or will it heal alright on its own. Also I already looked at pictures of stds it doesn't look anything like that, its not a blister, or an open sore. It's just a little red and swollen around the area were I found the cut, its sensitive in that area as well. I've only had sex with one guy and we've been together for 5 years, and he doesn't have anything that indicates that I got any kind of infection from him. So if you have any advise on how to help it heal and maybe to help the swelling and redness go away.

    • ANSWER:
i mean so much is going threw my head as am reading this am thinking did she cut it shaving down there. am not thinking std's at all. am also knowing that u need to keep the area clean from infection and not have sex until it is healed but. its a cut u will have to wait for it to heal. and no more douching u dont need to douche at all any doctor will tell u it is a waste of money and will cause the ph to be unblanced.

  5. QUESTION:
Idk what this is....Yeast infection? Warts?
Your Open QuestionShow me another ยป
Please help, I have no idea what this is.?
Months ago my gyno told me I have hpv she said it is neutral and she didnt know if it was the wart type or the cancer type, she said it would probably cure itself, my next check up, same thing. No nothing. Two days ago I had sex twice the first time without a condom and the second time with a condom. Yesterday I was sore but figured it was because the sex was rough. Today it still hurts! I got home, got a mirror and looked at my cervix and saw this white stuff, it looked like baby powder on the outside of my cervix in the cracks, but then it looked like it was coming out of my vagina, so I took a shower and tried to get it off, got out, it was still there, I took a wet q-tip to try and take it off, it doesn't come off! I looked closer with the mirror and saw two wart looking bumps on the outside of my cervix....I freaked out, called my mom in the bathroom and showed her, she said it looks like warts but that you can have warts removed...Im calling monday to make a gyno appointment but I probably cant even get in for another 3 weeks. It doesnt burn, my crotch feels like somebody hit it with a baseball bat though!....I looked online I can't find any picture similar to what it looks like. The warts or bumps or whatever they are, are the same pink color as my skin down there. I'm freaking out. If they are warts from HPV, are they treatable? Can you have them frozen off or are they permanent, I know herpes is permanent, Im not in enough pain for it to be herpes, my mom is a nurse and she thinks its regular genital warts, but then what the hell is the white stuff? it's like chalk looking. Please help.....

Also, could it be a yeast infection? Never had one but I looked a picture up online and it had bumps too.

    • ANSWER:
Good thing your mother's a nurse! I think you should avoid sex altogether (sorry!), until you get to the doctor and get to the bottom of the problem. Sex will only aggravate whatever's wrong. Tell your boyfriend he needs to be patient!
