Yeast Infection Treatment Home Remedies
Before we can discuss yeast infection treatment we need some information about what yeast infection actually is.
Understanding Yeast Infection
Yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of candida albicans bacteria. We all have a vast number of different bacteria including candida on our skin, in our mouths, in the genital area and in our intestines.
In a normal healthy person there is a delicate balance of these bacteria. The candida bacteria keep other potentially unhealthy bacteria in check - and the candida bacteria are kept in check by other friendly pro-biotic bacteria.
Unfortunately various situations in life can disrupt our internal balance and this is when an overgrowth of candida albicans can happen and we start to suffer with a yeast infection.
Causes of Yeast Infection
There are a large number of potential causes:
The use of antibiotics which can kill the pro-biotic bacteria which we need to prevent candida overgrowth.
Hormonal changes (during the normal menstrual cycle, pregnancy or as a result of hormone therapy or birth control)
Poorly controlled diabetes can allow elevated blood sugar levels which the yeast will feed on.
Clothing which allows increased moisture near the skin.
Sexual contact with an infected partner.
A weakened immune system (maybe as a result of HIV).
Stress can cause increased blood sugar levels which the yeast will feed on.
Poor diet - Refined carbohydrates can cause candida to grow.
Treatment
There are several main types of yeast infection treatment:
1) Over the Counter Treatments
During the last twenty years or so over the counter treatments such as anti-fungal creams, tablets and suppositories have become available from your local pharmacy..
Most of these treatments can be effective at treating the symptoms of yeast infection but very few are able to properly tackle the root cause our bacterial imbalance in our intestines. This is because the internal imbalance stems from such a complex situation which potentially involves several different issues.
Therefore the down-sides of relying on over the counter yeast infection treatment are:
They are not able to tackle the root cause - only the symptoms.
There can be nasty side effects if they are used in the long term.
They do not stop us from continuing what may be a very unhealthy lifestyle which contributes to perpetuating the problem thus allowing recurrent yeast infections, possibly for many years to come.
2) Quick Relief
There are some quick methods that can be effective in easing the symptoms:
The use of plain yoghurt that has not been heat-treated and still contains active pro-biotic bacteria can help when applied to the affected area and left for an hour or so. Make sure that it has not been heat-treated as heat-treatment kills the pro-biotic bacteria. If the container says bio-live on the side this is a good indication that it still contains pro-biotic bacteria.
Garlic has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It can be applied to the affected area and taken internally and should help to combat the symptoms.
Organic apple cider vinegar can also help when applied to the affected area.
Please understand that while these quick relief methods will definitely go some way towards relieving the symptoms they are highly unlikely to completely cure the infection
3) Doctors Prescriptions
Doctors find yeast infection difficult to eradicate simply because it can be triggered by what can be a very complex situation with a combination of so many different factors.
4) Immunotherapy Treatment
Immunotherapy yeast infection treatment was pioneered in London in the 1960's. This involves dietary changes along with oral drops or injections to increase the body's immune system while reducing the allergic response.
This treatment can be effective but is not usually a permanent solution as it wears off over time.
5) Natural Holistic Treatment
A natural holistic yeast infection treatment is the safest and most effective way to eliminate the condition permanently - because a comprehensive holistic treatment works on the whole body to tackle the root cause and restore our natural healthy internal balance rather than just dealing with the symptoms.

QUESTION:
What are some home remedies to treat a yeast infection?
I think I have a yeast infection, but I don't want to get any medicine or go to the doctor. Are they any home remedies to threat a yeast infection? Will it just go away by itself?-
ANSWER:
Tea Tree OilA few drops of tea tree oil poured on a tampon and inserted in the vagina can provide some relief. It is important to dilute the oil before using it as tea tree oil is extremely potent and can cause inflammation if it is used in its undiluted form. Tea tree oil can be diluted by mixing a few drops of this oil along with a teaspoon of olive oil or sweet almond oil. Tea tree oil has anti fungal properties and will help to control the yeast infection as well as reduce yeast infection symptoms such as itching. Tea tree oil is one of the most effective vaginal yeast infection home remedies but it is necessary to first consult your doctor as some women may have an adverse reaction to this oil. Tea tree oil can also be used as a male yeast infection cure.
GarlicFor non-vaginal yeast infections, you can apply garlic paste directly on the affected parts. This remedy is for other affected parts of the body and not for the vaginal yeast infection. If you do not have fresh garlic, you can dilute garlic oil along with Vitamin E oil and a few drops of coconut oil and apply this blend of oils to the affected skin. While garlic oil helps to control the infection, Vitamin E oil helps to fortify the skin and coconut oil helps to provide it with several fatty acids that help to prevent the infection from spreading. Yeast infection home cures can be used alongside other treatments to help speed up the recovery process.
Cold Coconut Oil and Cinnamon OilThese are two of the best natural cures for yeast infections in both men and women. Cold coconut oil or cinnamon oil can be applied on the infected areas 2-3 times a day to get rid of a yeast infection. Both these oils have effective anti-fungal properties which are very helpful in killing the yeast.
VinegarA hot sitz bath along with some added vinegar is a great way to relieve skin irritation and itching caused by a yeast infection. It is also an effective remedy to arrest the growth of yeast and restore the PH balance in the body.

QUESTION:
How long should a yeast infection last?
I've been taking 875 mg of generic augmentin (an antibiotic) twice a day for 10 days for a throat infection.
Of course, I developed a yeast infection a little over a week from the day I started the prescription.
I was wondering if it would go away by itself once the antibiotic left my system or if I need to get some sort of OTC treatment.
If it will go away on its own, about how long should it last?
Also, are there any good home remedies to treat the itching?-
ANSWER:
every time i take antibiotics the same thing happens to me! its annoying but from what i know its cuz the antibiotics kill all the bacteria they can, even the good bacteria which leaves us prone to infections until our bodies build the good stuff back up again.
i wouldn't leave the yeast infection alone, i would get the monistat/other brand asap cuz it will just get worse and ive heard of it causing UTIs if left for to long, besides being horrible to live with.
some stores have yeast tablets right in the feminine hygiene section that help prevent yeast infections or so they say but ive never tried them.
one thing that helped me get over the yest infections after antibiotics was kombucha, its a weird tea/juice thing that tastes pretty funny but is packed with good bacterias and helps to replenish the good stuff. not good to drink while ur on the antibiotics though, think they kind of counteract each other. you can probably find it at ur local co-op or health food store.
good luck! i hope this helps!

QUESTION:
what are home remedies to get rid of a yeast infection?
a day before my yeast occured i had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend and we used alot of ky jelly...can ky cause a yeast infection and what are some home remedies-
ANSWER:
It was probably the ky jelly, it can destroy the good bacteria in the vagina the same way some douches do.You need to restore the normal balance of healthy bacteria to kill the yeast.
The most popular and useful of the probiotics is Lactobacillus. Several forms of this nice bacterium can be used to treat yeast infections naturally.
If you want to use Lactobacilli to treat your yeast infection, you have the option of using it as an oral supplement or as a vaginal suppository. Acidophilus, a member of the Lactobacilli family, is the key ingredient that makes yogurt work! With this in mind, it makes sense to eat plenty of yogurt when battling a raging yeast infection.
If you need immediate relief, try using yogurt as a topical cream. Simply soak a tampon in unflavored yogurt that contains active cultures and insert it as usual. If you don t wish to use a tampon, you can simply wipe the yogurt on with a finger.
Tea Tree Oil and Other Treatment Options
This oil is taken from the tea tree and has apparently helped with yeast infections. However, tea tree oil is too strong to use without first diluting it a good deal. There is some debate about the safety and value of tea tree oil when used in this fashion.
Garlic cloves are well-known warriors in the fight against yeast infections. They can even be used as suppositories, provided the cloves are first wrapped in something soft and porous before being inserted.
An old timer remedy is honey, just dab it on with your finger and can provide relief on contact.
Also apple cider vinger diluted with water can be applied to relieve itching and kill the yeast.

QUESTION:
Yeast infection; what can my boyfriend and me do sexually?
I am on several antibiotics because I have been sick with a virus and I think the medications are giving me a yeast infection. What are some home remedies I can do to help? What can my boyfriend and me do sexually that is safe for the both us because I don't want to pass it to him and I don't want to make things worse for myself! Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Yogurt is effective against yeast infection as it contains high amount of acidophilus. This is known as good bacteria, which is responsible for destroying bacterial and fungal infections that starts to develop in the body. However, you should know that using yogurt as a yeast infection natural treatment has rules as well. It is necessary to opt for a pure yogurt as cure for the condition. It should not contain sugar and must not be processed.Yogurt can be used both internally and externally. Consuming yogurt can help relieve yeast infection symptoms in women and men, and speed up the healing process of the infection.
You can also apply yogurt directly to the affected area. This may seem a bit messy but you can easily pull through with it, especially if it is against this very discomforting condition. You can use your fingers and apply the yogurt directly to the area affected by the infection or you can use it by dipping a tampon into it and inserting in into the vagina. Since yogurt is all natural, you can use it against the condition on a daily basis. It does not come with any side effects and is proven very effective against yeast infection. However, if the condition is severe, you might need to consume medications to relieve its symptoms.
Yeast infections are due to the excessive amount of yeast in the body and experts believe that it cannot be transmitted from one person to another. Oral thrush or oral candidiasis, on the other hand, can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. That means healthy men who had sexual intercourse with infected women can acquire the infection.

You can easily buy Yeast infection medicine in any drug store or super store...like Wal-martt.

QUESTION:
I am on my last day of treatment and I still have a yeast infection?
I have been using the off brand Monistat 7 and tonight is my last dose but I still have a yeast infection. Can someone please tell me what the most effective way of treating a yeast infection is and how to prevent them? I am open to home remedies as well. Also, what causes yeast infections. I know antibiotics can because I get one every time I am on antibiotics but what else causes them?-
ANSWER:
As you may already know, candida, the bacteria that causes yeast infections lives in the vagina. There is always a small amount of it but because the vagina itself is acidic with a Ph between 3-4 it is controlled, and doesnt bother at all. Ok, so you know about antibiotics, but any other factor (like soap, ovulation, condoms or any type of birth control ) that changes your vaginas Ph and makes it less acid is giving the candida a environment that is perfect for it to grow. Now about the remedy, give the monistat some time to work, but I recommend you to take Some Apple cider vinegar dilute it in some fresh water and sit on that mixture, in a tub or in a bucket, allowing your legs to be just a little open. Believe me THIS WORKS.
Do it at often as you can
Hope I helped!

QUESTION:
Do you have to go to the doctor right away if you think you have a yeast infection?
Or can you just buy some vaginal medications to treat it ? Or some home remedies?Im starting to believe that I may have a yeast infection because of this "cottage cheese" looking discharge? I'm not itching or burning or have any redness.
Pls help?
-
ANSWER:
If you know that it is a yeast infection and know how to treat the problem yourself then there is no reason to see your doctor, however if there is any possibility of it being another infection or having another infection along with the yeast infection then you need to see your doctor for tests and then possibly treatment. The cottage cheese discharge is a common sign of a yeast infection, you don t need to have all the symptoms, although of course if you are sexually active (not just penetrative penis to vaginal sex) then it may be an STD or it may even be another infection. I d say that if you are not sure and don t know much about your body then see a doctor to be sure and also I d recommend some basic sexual health books to read not many people know about even the basics of sexual anatomy, it s nothing to be ashamed of, it is however something to be ashamed of if you take no interest in learning for yourself. There are plenty of treatments you can get over the counter, Canesten cream being the better known or you now get duo which is a cream for your vulva and vagina, also tablets to help fight the infection from the inside. There are also just creams, such as Vagasil, personally I d say to avoid this particular brand like the plague as it s manufacturers obviously care very little for female sexual health (their company also produces products that actually cause vaginal infections, they even have the cheek to advertise them on TV one after the other). These creams normally work very well, the problem is that they can be expensive I m guessing not much different from prescriptions in the US. I personally prefer the DIY route because if you know what you are doing then it is cheap and you have better control over your body, if that fails then it is time to see a doctor.
There are a few well-known and well-used home treatments;
Yogurt.
It contains Lactobacillus acidophilus which is a bacterium that is found in healthy vaginas, it kills yeast by producing hydrogen peroxide eating yogurt also helps in prevention of yeast infections or take pills containing acidophilus. You can just plaster this stuff in your vulva and on your vagina as much as you can, leave on overnight and clean off in the morning, a better way of doing it is to fill up a menstrual cup or softcup with yogurt, or freeze some yogurt into ice cube makers and insert. Just be sure to use PLAIN PRO-BIOTIC yogurt.
Garlic.
Contains an antifungal that kills off yeast, you just insert a fresh clove of garlic into your vagina peel off the papery skin of the garlic clove but do not bruise the clove itself as this may cause irritation. Leave it for several hours at a time, like overnight, try several nights in a row until the symptoms disappear.
Teatree oil.
This is a natural anti fungal too, but using it is a bit more difficult normally people said to put some onto a tampon, but of course tampons cause vaginal infections like yeast infections, particularly if used when not menstruating, so it s not the wisest idea. You can obviously put some into a menstrual cup or softcup, otherwise just washing your vulva with it a couple of times a day may help.
Boric acid.
Load up some size 00 capsules from a pharmacy with boric acid and use these as suppositories, the heat and moister of your vagina will dissolve the capsules so releasing the boric acid. Insert two (600mg) into your vagina every night for a week, discontinue if it irritates.
Potassium sorbate.
Potent antifungal you can buy from most home-brewing suppliers and natural food stores. Make a 3% solution by adding 8 gm (1 tablespoon) potassium sorbate to a cup of water, the idea is to use a tampon to teat but of course the risk factor is still there so again try a menstrual cup, softcup or wash your vulva with it a few times a day for a few days until the infection is gone.
Gentian violet.
It s a bit difficult to find, it s a very old remedy and if you do find it then it is going to be in a pharmacy next to the iodine. You swab it all over your vagina and vulva once or twice a day for a few days this stuff is bright purple, awesome cool but it ll stain any nice white panties so wear all black.

QUESTION:
WOuld it be ok for me to use Apple Cider vinegar to douche a Vagina tha has a yeast infection?
If it says for me to vinegar for a home remedy for a yeast infection.. Would it be ok to use Apple Cider Vinegar?-
ANSWER:
Never douche. It is harmful to the natural good bacteria that lives in your vagina. That bacteria fends off bad bacteria from getting into and setting up shop in your vagina and cause an infection. With out that good bacteria you will end up with more vaginal infections and bad smells. I am 25 years old and never douched or used feminine wipes and I have never had any vaginal infection. If you don't believe me you can read this article:http://www.alternet.org/sex/143075/lysol-scented_vaginas:_the_strange_history_of_douching/?page=entire
I know you might think, "They sell douches so they must be safe." But that isn't true. They sell a lot of things that are not safe. For example, they sold lead paint and that was very dangerous.
First are you sure you have a yeast infection?
"The symptoms of vaginal yeast infection include:
* Vaginal itching that is often severe.
* Vaginal discharge that is usually white, thick, clumpy, and odorless.
* Red, irritated skin around the opening to the vagina (labia).
* Pain while urinating when urine touches irritated skin.
* Pain in the vagina during sexual intercourse.Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are more likely to occur during the week before a menstrual period.
There are other conditions with similar symptoms, such as bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted disease. Itching and redness of the vulva can also be caused by a reaction to vaginal products such as soap, bath oils, spermicidal jelly, or douches. If you are unfamiliar with your symptoms, see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis."
http://women.webmd.com/tc/vaginal-yeast-infections-symptoms
If you are still not sure you can go to the pharmacy and get a (over the counter) test and find out if you have an infection:
(Although the other products they sell I consider unnecessary bad they are the only ones that make the test that I know of.)
http://www.vagisil.com/vaginal-discharge-infections-screening-kit.shtml
It's about .
And if you do have a yeast infection you can go to this website and in the top left corner there is a button labeled, 'Treatment Finder' and you can find which treatment would be best for you:
http://www.monistat.com/
They are around to .
And if you have an concerns you can always go to the doctor or gynecologist.
But when this clears up I really suggest you wash your vulva and vaginal region with warm water in your shower. Your vagina is the original self cleaning oven. It knows what to do to keep itself clean.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
What can i take for my ear infection besides antibiotics?
Currently, I can't take antibiotics because I have a yeast infection right now. I've been having the yeast infection for 3 months already and I'm finally getting it tackled.I do not want to take antibiotics, because of course antibiotics makes a yeast infection worst. I do not want to go through this again. But neither do I want an ear infection because those are very severe. Including I kind of have anxiety issues too so that kind of might trigger my ear infection a bit because stress or anxiety affects your immune system, but im working on it.
Sorry for too much writing but in short words do you guys know any home remedies or anything that isn't an antibiotic that can treat an ear infection? because its already going down my throat and the ear drops aren't effective
-
ANSWER:
I empathize with you, dealing with two competing medical problems simultaneously. I've been there (with different issues then yours, obviously). There are some home remedies for outer ear infections, but if the drops are failing that means it's probably inner ear. You'll have to see a doctor, or doctors. Y!A won't do it here. Everything becomes very different when dealing with multiple infections.
Only a doctor can help you balance the pluses and minuses, and understand the risks of possible treatments. Some ear infections can lead to complete hearing loss, and so might be worth the antibiotics and misery. Perhaps an ear/nose/throat doctor has some way of getting the drops to where they're needed, or at least to clean out the ear.
Or (cross your fingers) you may find out the infection is trivial, which will alleviate both the dilemma and the stress.
Best of luck with this.

QUESTION:
Will eating flavored yogurt help a yeast infection?
I just bought flavored yogurt and then realized that that's not so good for a yeast infection because of the sugar. I wouldn't use that to put into my vagina because I realize how bad that could be (feeding the yeast and all), but will it make the infection worse if I just eat it? Will it help clear up the infection? Also, do you have any other general advice for a yeast infection? Any recommended over-the-counter things, home remedies, etc.
-
ANSWER:
Yeast infections aren't that easy to permanently get rid of. Many products can temporarily relieve the symptoms, but a long term treatment approach will be your best bet to completely elliminate it.One of the more popular and effective homeopathic solutions is yeastrol. It's very effective at treating vaginal, penile and oral yeast infections.
What you can also do to speed your recovery is to change you diet in a way that will starve the yeast organisms (Candida).
Things that you should remove from your diet are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour,
alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold.Things to add to your diet are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans
Another thing to keep in mind is that both you and your partner should consider the diet change/yeastrol treatment as you can be passing the infection back and forth between you.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

QUESTION:
How to treat Tonsilitis with no prescription with a couple days?
I Do NOT have strep throat, my doctor already told me that two weeks ago. I was prescribed a ( MeDra Pak). Which did get rid of the white infection or what I could see of it. The day after finishing that dose ( 7days) I developed a yeast infection on my bottom, it took two doses of diflucan to calm it down to the point where it doesn't hurt to sit down. I need to have my tonsils removed, I do know this. I am looking for a short treatment that doesn't invovle a prescription, because the meds tend to keep me going for about 2 weeks then it returns. So in short, i'm going out of town this weekend, and I don't want a yeast infection from whatever med they WOULD like to prescribe me in the mean time, until I get them removed, nor do I want to be sick. So does anybody have some advice, or home remedies that actually work. Of course I know this is short-term, but whatever works for right now it great!. Thanks~-

QUESTION:
Are these symptoms a yeast infection or something else?
hello. are these symptoms a yeast infection or are they something else?- VERY dry vagina, no natural lube present
- VERY itchy and uncomfortable vagina, can barely sit without squirming around
- I usually get my period around now but instead when I went pee all that came out is brown type discharge. I have to wear a pad.
I am 26 yr. old virgin so I know it's not an STD. Does anyone know any home remedies for this? I've never been to a gyno. TY.
-
ANSWER:
I don't know any home remedies for a yeast infection, but there are non-prescription ones available at any drugstore, called Monistat or Vagisil. They also sell detection kits that let you be sure what's going on in there, although your symptoms do sound like a yeast infection. The brown discharge probably IS your period. It doesn't have to be bright red, blood can be brown too. There's nothing wrong with that, it's more or less normal.
I'd probably get a treatment kit that comes with the external creme that will help the itching outside, as the treatment will help the itching inside. If THAT doesn't work within a few days, then you should see the doctor because most other vaginal infections need a doctor's help to cure.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Yeast infection home remedy question about yogurt?
I hear you are supposed to soak a tampon in plain unsweetened yogurt and do this twice daily to make your yeast infection go away, but my question is...Exactly how long should I keep the tampon in?
-
ANSWER:
i dont think that using soaked tampon is good idea!!!if you really want to get rid of yeast infection then you must follow these tips:
1) Eat yogurt!!!! It contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that destroy yeast. Use only plain yogurt with active cultures.
2) Douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.
3) Decrease or eliminate sugar and sugary foods. Sugar promotes yeast growth.
4) Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent.
5) Try gentian violet. It's a traditional remedy for yeast and other infections, and can be found in pharmacies. Swab the area with it once or twice a day. Make sure to use a thick pad - it stains everything.
6) Use an herbal douche. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with cider vinegar.
7) You must use herbal treatment. In that case Yeastrol is really good (probably the best) product that gets rid of yeast infection comparatively fast and makes you feel more confident knowing that it wont reappear again!
And of course it is better if you use full course (5 months - if I remember correctly). For me it worked very fast + I dont get yeast infections anymore (almost 2 years) ...

QUESTION:
How to get rid of a plantar wart?
Okay so I think I am prone to illness. I have a plantar wart, a yeast infection, athletes foot, and pin worms. These all caused my mom to go buy something to fix it. She bought medication for everything except for the plantar wart but I don't want her to go buy something to make it go away. Are there any at home remedies to make it go away?-
ANSWER:
Salicylic acid. Using salicylic acid, a plantar wart treatment that you can purchase over-the-counter from your local drug store, you can remove a plantar wart in generally about four weeks. The process calls for daily application of acid to the wart, as well as rubbing of the dead skin from the wart.
Cryotherapy. It sounds like what they did to Ted Williams, and does involve freezing. In this case, doctors use liquid nitrogen to "freeze" your wart. They apply the liquid nitrogen directly onto the plantar wart using a spray-tip or cotton-tip applicator. If you've never experienced cryotherapy before, you might be struck by the sci-fi image of unearthly vapors rising from the nitrogen tank. For children, this method can be too painful and scary, and at any rate, it guarantees neither more nor less success than duct tape or acid treatments. If successful, however, you'll get rid of that plantar wart faster.
Other natural remedies. You can learn a number of natural remedies for plantar warts, moles and skin tags in the excellent e-book Moles, Warts and Skin Tag Removal - this program is highly recommended, safe and fast!

QUESTION:
Yeast infection and home remedies?
I've been pretty uncomfortable for the last few days in my downstairs. It's pretty itchy but I'm wondering about one of my symptoms. I have this weird clumpy discharge that has a sort of doughy consistency and reeks like bread. Is this for sure a yeast infection? Do you have any good home remedies? Also, I'm still a virgin.-
ANSWER:
Hi PyramidH,
It certainly sounds like you have a yeast infection and I see someone has already wrongly advised you to take antibiotics, let me briefly explain what a yeast infection is and how you can safely get rid of it and why taking antibiotics does more harm than good.ANTIBIOTICS are probably the leading cause of vaginal yeast infections in American women, and are a great example of the important principle that by using technology to solve problems, we create other problems. Say you take an antibiotic to cure your sinus infection. The antibiotic kills the unwanted bacteria in your sinuses, but can also kill the "good" bacteria in your crotch, upsetting the balance of your vaginal ecosystem, allowing the yeast to take over. (Antibacterial deodorant soap can have the same effect.) Most women have problems with only a few types of antibiotics, or with prolonged antibiotic treatment. Others get yeast infections every time they take antibiotics.
Yeast is a fungus that normally lives in the vagina in small numbers. A vaginal yeast infection means that too many yeast cells are growing in the vagina . These infections are very common. Although they can bother you a lot, they are not usually serious
Most yeast infections are caused by a type of yeast called Candida albicans.
A healthy vagina has many bacteria and a small number of yeast cells. The most common bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, help keep other organisms-like the yeast-under control.
When something happens to change the balance of these organisms, yeast can grow too much and cause symptoms. Taking antibiotics sometimes causes this imbalance. The high estrogen levels caused by pregnancy or hormone replacement therapy can also cause it. So can certain health problems, like diabetes or HIV infection. If you practice good genital hygiene, you can help prevent infection.
Keep your vaginal area clean. Use mild, unscented soap and water. Rinse well.
After using the toilet, wipe from front to back to avoid spreading yeast or bacteria from your anus to the vagina or urinary tract.
Wear underwear that helps keep your genital area dry and doesn't hold in warmth and moisture. One good choice is cotton underwear.
Avoid tight-fitting clothing, such as panty hose, and tight-fitting jeans. These may increase body heat and moisture in your genital area.
Change out of a wet swimsuit right away. Wearing a wet swimsuit for many hours may keep your genital area warm and moist.
Change pads or tampons often.
Don t douche or use deodorant tampons or feminine sprays, powders, or perfumes. These items can change the normal balance of organisms in your vagina.
PyramidH if you're like most Yeast Infection sufferers, the reason you're having such a hard time getting rid of your yeast infection is because you're using methods that couldn't possibly work, physiologically speaking. Not only that, you could be utterly destroying your delicate internal balance and your health and making your Yeast Infection worse in the process!
Even the natural products that promise to kill the source of the infection (e.g. killing Candida Albicans) do not work because Candida is a naturally occurring yeast that is found in everybody and the only way to get rid of it is to neutralize the environment that encourages its overgrowth, not by killing the yeast.
Only by tackling the real underline cause, the correct circumstances that promote the growth of candida and the exact source of Candida in the body following a complete multidimensional holistic program will result in the complete elimination and prevention of Candida yeast infection and gaining back your health
PyramidH below is a link to my website where you will find all the help you need.

QUESTION:
Is my itchy bum vaginal yeast infection die-off or an anal yeast infectionm?
Hi there! I have a vaginal yeast infection. I've had some Canesten and have been trying at-home remedies as well. I also have an itch around the outside of my rectum. I don't think it was there at the beginning and it is getting worse, especially at night time. Now, it could be worms or something, but given the fact that this itch happened around the time that I got a yeast infection, I think the itch is related to the Candidiasis. I have read that my itchy bum could be a symptom of the yeast die-off. My dilemma is that it could also be an anal or perianal yeast infection. If it's die-off, I'll put some aloe vera around my bum and wait it out but if it's an anal yeast infection, I will probably buy some antifungal cream and use other remedies as well. I don't know which treatment to do... I took a couple baths with apple cider vinegar, and that seemed to remove some yeast (from my vagina, I do believe), but it did not help my butt itch which makes me think that perhaps it is Herxheimer's reaction. I also put poured some apple cider vinger onto some toilet paper, and held it on the outside of my anus. There was no pain, nor was their relief. Anyway, I would appreciate any input, anecdotes, or opinions. If it does not get better within a few days, I will go to the doctor.Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
Maddy,I'm sorry for your pain and discomfort I have experienced this first hand. If not treated right away it can be a long lasting infection. I have tried every treatment out there, most things help but none have worked as well as a product I found called Dermariche Anti fungal. This worked way better then the Prescription my Dr gave me. It works fast to kill the infection, heal the skin and sooth the god awful itch/pain. Other things that have helped is wearing loos fitting bottoms without underwear.
Good Luck

QUESTION:
i have a yeast infection and many home remedies i have tried do not work. what store brand works the best?
i know for sure its a yeast infection and i would rather not go to the doctor for pills or creams. i would much rather go to a store and buy a product. what type of product is the best and where can i get it?-
ANSWER:
Well I've had more than one doctor tell me that the over the counter stuff doesn't really work as well so if you are dead set against seeing a doctor your body may develop an immunity to the products so that nothing works and you will always have to see a doctor everytime you get a yeast infection. My personal experience has been the best time I've been cured were when I used the 5-7 day Monistat. Not the one day and not the three day. It must be 5 or more days in order to get rid of it completely. There is something that my dermatologist prescribed after I just talked to him on the phone because he had me on an antibiotic and the yeast infection treatment was called ketoconazole and is a pill. It took only the first dose to make me feel a whole lot better before continuing with the whole seven day treatment and I didn't have to deal with the messy creams. If the over the counter Monistat failed to get me better I usually had a bacterial infection that needed antibiotics. Also keep in mind that if a yeast infection returns soon after using over the counter stuff it's recommended you see your doctor to make sure that you don't have diabetes (I hear yeast thrives on sugar) or other medical problem.

QUESTION:
Any home remedies to treat yeast infections in dogs?
My dog has a yeast infection of the skin. I cant take her to a vet right now bc I live about 2 hours away from the nearest one and money is tight right now. Im kind of at my wits end and I was wondering if any over the counter products work, like Vagisil. Ive seen many things online in research on what to try, but its so overwhelming. Any help would be appreciated.-
ANSWER:
There is an easy fix for a skin yeast infection. The smell can be reduced almost overnight with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and borax. To prepare the solution, add one tablespoon of borax to one liter of 1% hydrogen peroxide, mix well and spray on the dog all over. Make sure that the entire skin is in contact with the solution. Do not rinse and let dry. This solution should be applied everyday for a week. Most if not all of the smell should be gone by the second week.
Borax is a non-toxic anti-fungal compound which will help in eradicating the yeast infection. Borax is a natural mineral that has a wide variety of uses. It is a component of many cosmetics, used as a food preservative, detergents, enamel glazes, etc.
CAUTION: Make sure that you use Borax, NOT Boric Acid which is toxic. Borax is non-toxic and can be found in the laundry aisle at most major discount stores and grocery stores and it is very inexpensive.
Good luck.
Note:
Never alow your vet to prescribe Prednisone or any other steroid to your dog. Just like in humans, steroids will cause more harm than good.Vets can be very irresponsible when it comes to the prescription of steroids because they are well aware of steroid side effects.
As Dr. Karen Becker, DVM states - "Steroids (also called prednisone, cortisone or the nondescript allergy shot ) are the least optimal treatment choice, as they work by suppressing your pet s immune system. Not only can steroids have a negative effect on your pet s liver, adrenal glands and kidneys, but suppressing your pet s immune system with steroids also allows for opportunistic yeast and bacteria to grow on your pet s skin, sometimes increasing the chances that antibiotics may be prescribed."

QUESTION:
what is the best yeast infection remedy?
I have never had a yeast infection and it has been a long time since the symptoms started... finally tonight my boyfriend confirmed that thats what i have. I am really scared now i am not sure what to do. I was wondering what was the best over the counter treatment there was to buy that i can get tomorrow.
I know it is a yeast infection because when he mentioned it i looked it up and started reading several articles about it and i have everything that it says you should have if you have a yeast infection.-
ANSWER:
Candidiasis, more commonly known as yeast infection, derives its name from the fungal species candida albicans which causes such infection.
A condition not too serious, this infection can easily be treated with the help of yeast infection medication, most of which is easily available over the counter. Home remedies for yeast infection as well as natural ones are commonly recommended and are also known to be greatly effective.Commonly occurring forms of yeast infection include oral candidiasis or thrush, genital candidiasis of which vaginal infection is more common than penal, and superficial skin infections. People having diabetes, cancer or AIDS are more susceptible to these infections, and also those having weaker immune systems. Such persons may also be affected by yeast infections of the gastrointestinal tract, pharynx or the urinary bladder and are at a greater risk of the infection turning life-threatening. Medical advice may, therefore, be sought in severe cases or if the infection is recurring.
For some people, all there is, is a little itch which can easily be ignored but for the majority of the population with natural relief for yeast infection.

QUESTION:
does anyone know any home remedies for a dog who has a yeast infection in their ears?
our female english mastiff has an ear infection, and we want to know if there are home remedies or herbs we can use to clear it up, not something expensive we have to get through a vet or some website, something we can buy at a store and use at home.-
ANSWER:
since it is a yeast infection..don't laugh, it really works..monistat or any other feminine yeast product will work on your dogs ears! it has essentially the same basic ingredients as the mometomax that your vet will prescribe.no treatment will work however if you don't take precautionary steps to preventing another infection. first, clean the ear well with an ear solution (from pet store) and cotton balls. apply some of the monistat into the ear canal and massage the ear thoroughly (you want the medicine deep into the ear). clean and apply med once daily until a significant imporvement is seen, then move to once every other day, and ween off like that.. yest is caused by moist dark places, so do everything within your power to keep your pup's ears dey.
good luck hope this helps

QUESTION:
How can I cure my vaginal yeast infection in a natural way at home?
I've been suffering from yeast infections for years now and they have now become chronic. The drugs don't help me anymore. The internet is full of different kinds of advice for natural cures, I have already tried some of them with no success. I was wondering are there really effective natural methods for yeast infections?-
ANSWER:
Yes, there are a lot of natural remedies, but it is not important which one do you take or apply, but when and how much of them you apply. Right timing and dosage are the key to success. There is not one natural treatment that will solve your problem. You always have to combine several treatments, the point is to kill the infection from inside, not outside.
Why don't you check some simple methods that have already helped many yeast infection sufferers?

QUESTION:
What kind of home remedies is there for Bacterial Vaginosis?
I'd like to Know if there is any home remedies for BV because I really Cant take the pill. I'd like a replacement for it. I dout want remedies for the symptoms, I want a remedy for the BV itself. please I need you help.-
ANSWER:
I suffered from recurring BV and yeast infections (super fun, they would trade off so I was constantly suffering!) and tried every remedy recommended by the medical community. The only thing that worked and has kept it away is boric acid suppositories. It sounds scary, but it is perfectly safe if inserted into the vagina (obviously, do not ever take orally or put the powder directly on your skin). I bought boric acid powder, size 00 capsules, and a capsule filler (all of this cost under ) and made my own pills. Filling the larger half of the 00 capsules is equal to about 600 mg which is the recommended dosage. When I was in the full blows of the BV, my treatment was:
2 pills inserted vaginally every night at bedtime for 7 days;
1 pill inserted vaginally every night at bedtime for 7 days;
1 pill every other night for the next 7 days, every 2 nights the next 7 days. Eventually you get to the point where you only need it sporadically when you start to feel funny. But even then, only one pill one night usually takes care of it. Good luck!

QUESTION:
looking for a home remedy for dog ear infection?
can anybody suggest a cheap home remedy for a dogs ear infection? I have a cocker spaniel and she has some kind of ear infection but I am out of work so I am trying to avoid taking her to the expenisive vet.
Has anybody had any luck with any home remedies for this? I have tried putting the fluids from a couple of vit. E capsules in her ear but I am not sure if it has worked or not...I have only just did this yesterday though.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.-
ANSWER:
There is NO home remedy - you need to get your dog to the vet, have the ear infection identified -- could be a yeast infection, could be ear mites. The vet will then give you the proper treatment for the problem.
This is not expensive and absolutely necessary. Ear infections don't go away with home remedies, you've just made it worse with the E capsule.
This isn't an option, it is absolutely necessary to get your dog treated by a vet - ear infections are painful, itch like mad, and can cause deafness and worse for your dog.Get that dog to the vet -- doesn't cost that much for the infection to be identified and the right medication given.

QUESTION:
How can I get rid of a yeast infection on my chest?
A dermatologist told me that some marks on my chest were a yeast infection. I went to see him about something else so he didn't prescribe anything for that problem. Are there are natural remedies I can try? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Yeast infections are caused by the organism Candida albicans. It is present in everyone every day, since it helps our bodies function. When the opportunity presents itself, whether it is due to stress, a lowered immune system, or other infection, Candida can grow out of control, causing the infection. Many people would prefer to skip a visit to the doctor for something as common. And trying to even get a doctor's appointment may take a week or more. Most prescription and over the counter medications are great for clearing up the symptoms, but they don't address the real issue. Using a home remedy can be more effective in clearing up the root cause of the infection.
There are several home remedies. They are easy to use and effective most of the time. One of the most popular and often reached for home remedies is plain yogurt. When shopping, look for plain yogurt that contains live culture Lactobacillus acidophilus.
This yogurt is applied directly to the infection. For a vaginal infection, the yogurt can be frozen in the shape of a tampon, and then inserted into the vagina for treatment. Alternatively, you can inject unfrozen yogurt into the vagina with a needle-less syringe, or you can dip a real tampon into the yogurt and insert it afterwards.
Garlic is another effective home remedy for yeast infection. Garlic has anti-fungal qualities that make it very useful. Simply make a tampon-like shape out of the garlic cloves. Maybe sew them together with strong thread. Attach a string securely for easy removal. Insert into the vagina for several hours before removing. If the string comes off, you can remove the garlic cloves by sitting over the toilet and using your vaginal muscles to push them out.
Another natural home remedy is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is from Australia, and contains many anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities. Mix a few drops of the oil (it is very potent) with a carrier oil like sweet almond oil or olive oil.
Apply the mixture directly to the affected area. Tea tree oil can clear up an infection pretty quickly. If you are pregnant or nursing, you may want to discuss this with your care provider first, as tea tree oil is very strong.

QUESTION:
Strep throat home remedies for a person with cirrhosis of the liver?
My bro has no insurance so he can't go to doctor. He has strep troath and needs some home remedies that won't hurt his cirrhosis of the liver?-
ANSWER:
Hi SolI have healing remedies for both mentioned.
Cause
Sore throats are usually caused by viral infections, but can also be due to bacterial infections, tonsillitis, overuse of the voice, exposure to irritating substances such as cigarette smoke, allergic reactions, infections of the mouth, and/or colds and flu.Caution: Sore throats are rarely serious. However, if your sore throat does not heal within two weeks, and/or occurs with a rash, seek immediate medical attention. If any sore throat occurs with a rash, see a doctor. A sore throat caused by a Streptococcal infection (strep throat) must be identified and treated, or else it could create rheumatic fever or acute glomerulonephritis (disease of the glomerulus, a network of blood capillaries of the kidney).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Natural Cures
Aromatherapy: Inhalations with benzoin, lavender, thyme, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, clary sage, or sandalwood can help relieve symptoms.
Diet: Increase your intake pure filtered water, hot herbal teas, diluted fruit juices, and broths. Eat an organic whole foods diet that emphasizes fresh vegetables and vegetable soups. Avoid all sugars, alcohol, milk and dairy products and any and all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive. Raw organic honey placed at the back of the throat can also help soothe symptoms and speed healing.
Flower Essences: Crab Apple.
Herbs: If your sore throat is due to an infection, chew a small piece of osha root (Ligusticum porteri) and/or gargle with an infusion of sage or licorice. For a sore throat due to smoke or pollution irritation, gargle with an infusion of lavender or hyssop. Other useful herbs include echinacea, garlic, ginger, goldenseal, and slippery elm.
Juice Therapy: Drinking the juice of one or two red potatoes can soothe symptoms.
Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients can be helpful: vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, and zinc (in the form of lozenges taken every 1-2 hours unless nausea occurs, in which case decrease dosage).
Cause
Liver function can be impaired by a toxic bowel. Most pharmaceutical drugs, if taken on a consistent basis, can also cause liver disease. If you are on such medications, be sure to have your liver function monitored regularly (every 3-6 months) by your physician, and consider other healing alternatives that might reduce or eliminate your need for medications.Caution: Serious cases of cirrhosis require immediate medical attention.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Natural Cures
Aromatherapy: Juniper, rosemary, and rose essential oils can all help stimulate liver function.
Detoxification: Liver function can also be impaired by a toxic bowel. For this reason, bowel cleansing and rejuvenation techniques may be very important. In severe cases, repeat the bowel cleanse once a month, or as needed, and stay on bowel nutrients for up to one year depending on the severity of your condition and your response to treatment.
Diet: Diet is extremely important in preventing and reversing all forms of liver disease, including cirrhosis. Eat a low-protein, whole foods diet of organic foods, including seeds, nuts, whole grains, beans, nuts, and goat or rice milk, and also eat plenty of leafy green vegetables. Avoid all alcohol and processed fats such as margarine, hydrogenated oils, and foods with these oils added, rancid oils, and hardened vegetable fats. Instead, use cold-processed oils such as olive. Also increase your consumption of foods high in amino acids and potassium, such as nuts, seeds, bananas, raisins, rice, wheat bran, kelp, dulse, brewer`s yeast, and molasses, and drink plenty of pure, filtered water. Avoid animal protein as well as raw or undercooked fish, and limit your overall intake of fish.
Also avoid all stressors on the liver, such as overeating, drugs of any kind, a highly processed diet (especially one high in processed fats, additives and preservatives), and foods high in animal protein, and accumulation of toxins from chemicals that have to be processed by the liver such as alcohol, drugs, acetaminophen, insecticides, and chemicals from rancid and processed oils. Toxins from Candida yeast organisms within the body can also contribute to liver stress, as can the use of contraceptives.
Herbs: Milk thistle is an excellent herb to help in the treatment of cirrhosis because it helps liver cells regenerate. It may be taken in the form of tablets or the non-alcohol extract called a glycerate. The dose is based upon the content of silymarin (the active ingredient of milk thistle) and so standardized extracts are preferable. The typical dosage range is 70-200 mg of silymarin daily. The herb Picrorhiza kurroa is not as well-known as milk thistle, but may have similar effects. Licorice can also be helpful. The Chinese herb bupleurum (chai-hu) may also be helpful, as can the herbal mixture of kutki (200 mg), shanka pushpi (500 mg), and guduchi (300 mg), with is used by practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine to boost liver function. Take 1/4 teaspoon of this mixture taken twice a day, after lunch and dinner, with aloe vera juice.

QUESTION:
Is there a natural cure for candida? With no drugs or doctor?
It's embarrassing as hell but I have a reoccurring yeast infection that will not turn loose of me. My doc prescribed some pills that do nothing for me. I am in the process of searching for a new quack to give me more worthless treatment, but in the mean time does anybody know of a home remedy that could give me some relief?-
ANSWER:
Are you diabetic? It might be a good idea to be checked to see if you are passing glucose in urine. (very important)
There are OTC creams and ointments which might cure it. Make sure your partner is yeast free as well. Eat yogurt and drink buttermilk daily and cut out all sugar from your diet.

QUESTION:
How do I get rid of this yeast infection?
I heard eating lots of yogurt helps, but does it really work to cure it and what are some other home remedies? And if I buy the pills to take orally, how long do I have to take them?
Thanks in advanced.-
ANSWER:
get the over the counter medicine and your local drug store and follow the directions for as long as it tells you to. There are 1 day, 3 day and 7 day cream/supository type treatments. I personally don't like the 1-day ones they never seem to work for me so I usually use the 3-day or 7 day... I know they are a pain but its the only way to get rid of them. and use them for the required time even if it "feels like" its gone or it can come back worse... trust me it can.Eating yogurt helps prevent them from happening but doesn't do much to cure them and some of the the other pills are for prevention not cure.

QUESTION:
Can a guy use a vagisil home kit to test for a yeast infection?
I think I may have a yeast infection & i may have given it to my boyfriend im getting a test for me, can he use it to?-
ANSWER:
No, a guy can not use a vagisil home test kit. You can just treat him without a sure diagnosis, it will not hurt. There are two things you can do:1) If you believe you have a penile yeast infection you have a number of treatment choices.Men can use many of the same medications and drugs available for women. Each over-the-counter fungicide is listed here with the product name and its active ingredient:
Monistat-1 with active ingredient tioconazole
Monistat-3 also with tioconazole (3-day treatment)
Femstat or Mycelex with butoconazole
Monistat-7 with miconazole
Mycelex or Gyne-Lotrimin both with chlotrimazole2) Or you can do a home-remedy, some people don't prefer to it this way but it does work. I'm going to send you a link for you to read in regards to yogurt and probiotics. Taking a daily probiotic can help ward off yeast infections for you too, it contains lactobacillus acidophilus which is the 'good' bacteria found in your vaginal flora. If you have more of the 'good' it will fight off the 'bad'.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Best affordable brand of yogurt to use for yeast infection?
Hi I was wondering what brand of yogurt is good and works for a yeast infection and the best way to insert it into vagina. Should I put it in with fingers? Should I dip a tampon in the yogurt then put it in or could I fill a tampon applicator with yogurt, freeze it, then insert it?Thanks for all answers.

ANSWER:
I wouldn't use yogurt for yeast infections. Where did you hear that from? My doctor told me drinking cranberry juice is good for the bladder and infections. As home remedy this may be a good choice to go for.For a more formal and better treatment, you can just go to your local pharmacy and buy an over the counter medicine for yeast infections. Many women have problems like these. So finding these products shouldn't be difficult. I would ask someone who works their to help you find it.
As someone that has a vagina, I know that douching can cause yeast infections because it kills all the bacteria even the ones that help clean the vagina. It also increases your chances of getting yeast infections. Many doctors would advise you against using a douchebag because it causes a lot of problems such as yeast infections.

How long does it take for yogurt to make a yeast infection go away?
I have had it for a ridiculously long time because I don't wanna tell my dad and I don't live with any women. And don't tell me to go to the doctor, I know I should. Anyway, I have had it for longer then you could imagine and its really bad. Im so uncomfortable. And are there any other home remedies that would work? Or what is the best working medication at a store? Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Go to the store and buy the 3 day treatment its near the pads and tampons, The 1 day treatment is harsh I wouldnt suggest it. Just go through self checkout so its not embarrassing. You can get it for like 10 dollars. I get yeast infections all the time. this helps.
