Recurring Bladder Infections

It's a fact that 70% of all women will at one point in their lives get a yeast infection. Some will get it once, while others will get it over and over. Understanding the cause of yeast infections, is important in helping women understand the infection, and also methods of treatment and keeping it at bay.

There are many causes of yeast infections, ranging from stress, to hormonal imbalances to use of antibiotics.
As is a known fact, stress in women causes hormonal imbalances. The sudden change of hormone balance will upset the pH in the vagina as well, making it a breeding ground for bacteria that causes yeast infection. Hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, menstruation and menopause can also be a cause of yeast infections.

Transference through sexual intercourse causes men to get yeast infections. This refers to both oral and vaginal sex. It's also easier for a woman to get a recurrence from a man who has a yeast infection. Antibiotics taken to kill bad bacteria in the body, could kill good bacteria, for example the one in the vagina, cause a hormonal imbalance and thus encourage yeast producing bacteria to grow.

The use of Douches scented female hygiene products, feminine sprays, use of spermicides are all things that will bring about an imbalance of the vaginal pH, and then cause yeast infections. Tight fitting clothes such as panty hose, tight jeans don't allow the vagina to breathe. Staying in wet bathing suits is also a no-no. This also encourages the growth of yeast producing bacteria.

  2. QUESTION:
I read online about a Super Yeast Infection, how do you know if you have one of those?
I seem to get 5-6 yeast infections a year so I use Monistat or the pill form of treatment several times a year. Could this be a super yeast infection that just gets beat down but not cleared up which is causing reoccuring infections or is this normal? I also use Macrobid as a maintence dose due to being super prone to bladder infections, but my doc said that Macrobid in such a low dose won't cause yeast infections alone.

    • ANSWER:
The problem is the fact that you continuously use these over the counter meds and pills like diflucan and fluconazole.

Your body has built up a resistance to this form of cure. Try treating the root problem - the candida.

You can try natural treatments like:

      1. avoid sugars and complex carbohydrates from your diet
      2. Drink lots of water and eat plenty of fiber
      3. eat probiotics like plain yogurt and cottage cheese
      4. sleep with no underwear and wear breathable cotton panties during the day.
      5. avoid using scented soaps and body sprays
      6. don't douche
      7. add grapefruit seed extract to your diet
      8. put two to three drops of tea tree oil on a tampon and wear the tampon for 12 hours. do this for 2 days.
      9. Apply a garlic clove to the infected area for up to 8 hours. The acidity will neutralize the infection.
      10. Avoid sexual intercourse

  3. QUESTION:
i have constant reoccuring yeast infections one cleared up about 2 weeks ago and i have another one again!!?
I keep gettting yeast infections over and over again im not sure what to do? what could be causing it and how do i get them to go away?!

    • ANSWER:
Often the reason you get a reoccurring yeast infection is because what you are using to treat it is not attacking the root cause of the problem. Often times this happens when you use the OTC creams like monistat. The creams do a good job of temporarily eliminating the yeast infection, but they do a poor job of addressing the actual cause of the yeast infection.

Personally I think the best approach to permanently stopping yeast infections is the natural way. Basically the reason you have a yeast infection is because there's an imbalance in your body. A healthy person has a balance between the yeast in their body and the good bacteria in their body.

Too much yeast, you have a yeast infection. Too much bacteria, you have a bacterial infection.

So, when you have a yeast infection you essentially have too much yeast in your body. The natural way to treat it and bring back that balance is to starve the yeast and introduce more good bacteria into your body.

Oh and BTW - That's why you often get relief from using the over the counter meds temporarily, and then the yeast infection comes back. The creams aren't changing the source of the problem. They are just killing the yeast they come in contact with, and not balancing the yeast/bacteria in your body and actually sometimes end up making things a lot worse.

Oh BTW2 - That's also why many times you'll get a yeast infection after using antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. When that happens the balance between the yeast and good bacteria is off once again and you get a yeast infection.

Things you can add to your diet (to help promote good bacteria) are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans.

Things you should remove from your diet (to starve the yeast) are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour, alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold.

You can change your diet in conjunction with using the creams that you've been using and that will speed up the recovery significantly. But what I would also recommend is to use a homeopathic solution instead. I always feel if there's a natural way to do something, then it's best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote re-growth of the good bacteria in your body.

There are a few out there, I think they are probably all pretty good. One that I have used and was very effective for me was is yeastrol.

  4. QUESTION:
    reoccuring yeast infection?
ok sooo i've been getting a yeast infection around the same time every single month! i know its the same time because i get it the same time when i'm on a certain week of my birth control. i use the monistat cream and it clears it right up until the next month. could it possibly be my birth control that is causing this reoccuring yeast infection?

    • ANSWER:
Go talk to your doctor about it. NEVER leave a yeast infection untreated. It could lead to many worse things. The best advice is to see a doctor.
      Good luck.

  5. QUESTION:
what causes a vaginal bacterial infection(not a yeast infection) and what causes them to keep reoccuring ??

    • ANSWER:
It is sometimes E-coli and one of the best first steps towards recovery is to cut down on sugar consumption.........Take Probiotic supplements, the ones that should be refrigerated after opening and contain at least 3-4 billion live species in each serving... I think that would do it for you..
